New member, new owner. Bought my 2020 Scout ABS Thunder Black on December 30 2022 while on vacation and rode it back 3 hours back home on New Year's Day. I love the bike but I'm not a fan of this banana-looking seat, SEAT-SPORT,SCOUT,DESRT TAN VNL Item # 2689181-VTA. My tank may be good for 150 miles, but that seat isn't lol.

I see on Indian Motorcycle - America's First Motorcycle Company that the Extended Reach Solo Seat and Reduced Reach Solo Seat are compatible, but it's saying that the Driver Seat Assembly, Tan, India, Part 2687307-05 isn't compatible.

Does anyone have any experience putting the stock Scout solo seat on the 2020 Scout (ABS)? Would it work? I think I'm comfortable and don't need the reduced reach seat (I'm 5'7" and 190lbs at 39 years old). I know I have to buy the mounting bracket nut and the screw.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

- Heath

There are some Corbin's listed in marketplace for good prices. I have the Corbin brave and swear by it. Right now I have my solo seat on cause I'm tweaking other things on her right now but as soon as possible it's coming back off so I can use my corbin, looking into getting the rogue solo to try out cause it's got more hold you in support than the regular solo

The stock Scout seats are bad. The best route to go is a springer seat. If you like or can tolerate the style it also makes up for the less than great suspension. We sell one as well as Mother Roads and maybe one other company. A springer seat is firm which is more comfortable on long rides. A soft seat makes your butt muscles work too hard trying to stay seated. The springs give you another 2.5" of travel when you hit a bump.

I too have the 1920 solo seat an, though it is unlike any other bike seat I have used, I really like it. I can comfortably outlast a tank fuel. It is hassle, though, to get to the battery with it fitted.

The seat takes a little breaking in but, for me, improves the riding position, spreads your weight and gives room to move around. This said, I can see it won’t suit everyone, depending on body shape and riding style.

1920 Solo Seat is the most comfortable for me personally that I have ever encountered ‘butt nirvana.’

We replaced the original 2-up seat on my wife's 2021 Scout (exactly like yours but black instead of tan) with a Reduced Reach seat from Indian. As previously mentioned, I had to buy the bolt and mounting bushing from the dealer, but the seat fit perfectly.

Later we replaced the seats on both her Scout and my Scout 60 with Mustang seats /w backrests, and they also fit perfectly with no modifications. (BTW, we sold the Scouts so both the 2-up seat and one of the Mustang seats, both in black, are for sale in the classifieds)

I had the stock 2017 seat on my Scout69 reworked (custom fit) by Russell Day-Long and I can ride forever on it now. Tried the Mustang and it was not much better than stock. The RDL seat looks kind of like a tractor seat, but no springs... just nice comfy memory foam stuffing, etc. Their leather covering is perfectly fit and matches rest of trim. I don't second-guess this choice for a minute!

I absolutely love my Alex Leathercraft springer seat. Looks gorgeous and I can ride on it all day long! I endured the stock Bobber seat for 9k miles and just couldn't do it any longer.
just came back from a dealership and had the impression that they don't understand how much difference a spring seat makes to the ride when I was talking to them. They're still a bit of novelty here and don't realize spring seats are capable of killing the suspension issue off (two up might be different).

I suspect its not just the extra travel, but a sort of dampening effect from the suspension and springs being slightly out of phase. Feels like the rear suspension is having to work less with the spring seat. Like there is some dynamic that makes them work better than the sum of their parts. ps.. I am on the heavier side, around 225. Wouldn't have thought that regardless of reviews if I hadn't bought one for the looks and found out by accident.

this raises an interesting question, has anyone ever come off the back of a scout? How far do people slide off the seat? Or is it more a fear of doing so. My sprung seat is more spoon than tractor but I have a rack and bag a few inches behind it. When I give it a squirt it feels like there is nothing there but I know there is behind a brief gap. Eventually it dawned on me in my case I was imagining coming off the back as it never happens (maybe the springs depress often depending if you're leaning back, but the seat never comes out from under you).

Even so, I've a nice looking little tool roll that I plan on putting foam in and will fill the gap there, just so your back is touching something. Bobber seats might be different

mine looks like this in profile....

I agree, I bought a Corbin Brave used, and what a great improvement over the stock seat. I rode to California and back from Ohio, and it outlasted the gas mileage of the tank. Very comfortable!

I agree the stock seat for the Scout is a miserable piece of crap and is probably responsible for all the low mileage Scouts currently for sale. I'm currently trying Mustang's solo seat (which I believe will fit your bike as well) and while it's much more comfortable than the stock seat (no pain at the base of my spine at least), I need more time before deciding this is the best seat. That springer, solo seat above may be my next seat.

Buddy of mine has a Corbin Gunfighter on his scout and loves it, he can do 4-6hrs in a day no issues.
I put a Saddlemen Step Up on my Challenger and its great.

Ive never had a bike with a GOOD OEM Seat.
I have the same seat, Corbin Brave is the same seat. I’m good for 400-500 miles a day on it
