It didn't come standard on the older Chiefs. Anyone who had a 111 without hardbags (that required the lock/unlock 2-button fobs) had the same situation. The firmware was present, but without the 2-button fob you weren't able to activate the alarm.

A little history: A couple of us early owners discovered that the old round 'no-button' fobs actually had the lock switch on the circuit board internal to the fob (without an external button). If you firmly pressed the fob case where the switch was located you could get the bike alarm to arm. Some just used it that way, others modified their fob case to put a rubber knob over the switch so it could be activated more easily. Others did as you have done - buy a new 2-button fob.

It's really not that unusual for manufacturers to use a singular firmware/software for their products and then just make different features and options accessible with additional external controls/knobs/buttons. You pay more, you get more features.
Yea, you are right. I had a 15 and the Indian dealer called me and explained how I can add it which I did.
I guess what aggravates me is....
1) All these bikes should come with the alarm and button fob.
2) Indian should school the dealers so they are aware their customers can activate their alarms with the purchase of a new fob.
3) They shouldn't penny pinch a customer who just bought a new Indian from them by charging them $20.00 to mate the fob you just paid $300.00 for.

Thanks. I'm probably going to do this eventually. Some security would be good, especially considering it doesn't even have a damn steering lock.

This kinda angered me as this came on the older Chiefs standard so we know they stripped if out of the new Chiefs requiring us to pay additional for it. Many dealers don't even know this can be done. Which is why I posted it here. Glad I did it anyway.
FOB part number is 4017761
they also raised the price $20

Yup... I've been able to set the alarm on my '15 Vintage with the round fob. It's a bit fussy, but doable. I keep the bike in my locked garage so not too concerned about the bike being stolen. But it would be good if the anti-theft feature was easier to use.

Has anyone modified their round fob to make the alarm button/micro switch easier to use?

There are older threads that do that.

How can that be, my fob didn't have a button?
Checked my manual, nope.
Keyless start means you don't have to use a physical key to start the bike. The fob is the key and you just turn the bike on and hit the start button. I think you're thinking of remote start- which they don't have.

OK I got ya. My Dodge Challenger has keyless start and I can start the car with a fob button. I think we have keyless ignition.

Are these fobs compatible with the older bikes? This one says "Gen 2" in the title.
Not sure if Tbear (and others) are looking for a fob that works with the older 111 bikes that have the round fob or a newer bike that uses the rectangular fob.

Tbear has a new model Chief. I would think the older models stick with the round version or check with Indian.
