Did you happen to take the old FOB apart and look at the circuit board? Indian Dealers said the Vintage doesn’t have an alarm, but it does… My ‘14 Vintage for example had a no button FOB, but the circuit board had 1 micro switch. (SW1) Sets the Alarm and would lock the hard bags. (SW2, not installed) Would disarm the Alarm and unlock the hard bags. The Alarm will also disarm if, with the FOB in range, you bring the bike to an upright position or hit the power button.

You could either press hard on the No Button FOB and set the alarm or just buy a new case with buttons. My original FOB case was cracked so I bought a new one … around $40.

So check the circuit board and see if it has a micro switch … test it … if it works you just need a replacement case with buttons …

If you do need to buy a new FOB the VCM can store up to 4. So the dealer can program the new one without erasing the old one. You’ll have a back up.

I have the new Chief. My 15 Chief didn't come with the alarm but 16 and up did. I had to do an ECU update to add the alarm. And even though my fob didn't have a button, if you squeezed it hard anough, I could activate the alarm. The new Chiefs are not the same as the older ones. This is the new FOB without the button.

Ok … but what does the circuit board look like on the side where the buttons should be?

I had to buy a new button fob. They synced with the bike and it works.
I had 3 different people at the dealer saying It can't be done but they did it.
If you are interested, prepare for the fob sticker shock.
Interesting because that is what the manual says that I have also. But all the dealers I talked to didn’t have a clue about it. You should post a video of it working.

Bought a 2 button Fob and had them program it yesterday. Works like a charm… thanks
This kinda angered me as this came on the older Chiefs standard so we know they stripped if out of the new Chiefs requiring us to pay additional for it. Many dealers don't even know this can be done. Which is why I posted it here. Glad I did it anyway.

It didn't come standard on the older Chiefs. Anyone who had a 111 without hardbags (that required the lock/unlock 2-button fobs) had the same situation. The firmware was present, but without the 2-button fob you weren't able to activate the alarm.

A little history: A couple of us early owners discovered that the old round 'no-button' fobs actually had the lock switch on the circuit board internal to the fob (without an external button). If you firmly pressed the fob case where the switch was located you could get the bike alarm to arm. Some just used it that way, others modified their fob case to put a rubber knob over the switch so it could be activated more easily. Others did as you have done - buy a new 2-button fob.

It's really not that unusual for manufacturers to use a singular firmware/software for their products and then just make different features and options accessible with additional external controls/knobs/buttons. You pay more, you get more features.
