While tightening the front axle on my 2019 Scout Bobber, it spins and won’t pull the fork to the spacer. The axle looks fine, but metal shavings came out, the fork threads are stripped.

Has anyone dealt with this? Helicoil, Time-Sert, or fork replacement?

Looks pretty bad. Threads look pretty much non-existent. The axle is 25mm doubt if there is any kind of thread repair like heli-coil or timesert that big. Fork Slider replacement is prolly necessary.

Just curious as to why it happened. Did you tighten it to specified torque? I’m a little leary of some of their specified torque numbers. Some seem a little high. The oil drain plugs, I’ve read too many threads here about those stripping, I usually just tighten them by feel. Never a problem. Same way on all my vehicles. As for the front axle, I set my torque wrench about 3lbs. under the torque spec. in the manual.

Go ahead and replace the fork leg. I suspect the cost of a thread repair kit that size will cover most of the cost of a new lower fork. Since you have to take apart the fork to replace that lower stanchion, consider rebuilding the other fork especially if they have 10,000+ miles on the them.

Glad you’re back on the road again. I won’t ask how much but did you have to buy that through Indian or were you able to find one somewhere else? Just knowing how Indian is to deal with on such things, I wouldn’t be surprised if they would only sell in pairs. As in right and left.

I ordered through the Indian site. I was surprised how quickly it was delivered. What I noticed is that they have stopped using the branded red, nicely packaged boxes. Now they are plain white no-name cardboard boxes - looks cheap.
