Running crack in windshield...

Noticed a small crack coming from around one of the bolts on windshield trim about a month ago. Now there's another running crack next to it. Bike is less then a year old and was wondering if it would be covered by warranty? Has anyone else had problem with cracks? Do you thing the stock windshield is too big and wind causing too much pressure on those areas? Wondering if anyone had the same thing happen...

I have a crack in mine after two weeks owning it. Sent picture to dealer, replacement on order. looks like hardware may have been a little to tight.

I agree with you 100%. Have the same windshield on my Chief.

After posting this thread, I found another previous thread with several guys posting the same problem. Indian makes a shorter windshield, which I'm thinking may cause less wind stress. Maybe I can talk the dealer into switching to the shorter version. I've thought about a shorter one anyway.

Obviously, the supplier of their windshield is having manufacturing issues. It's not like this is rocket science, and from Kawi's to Harleys, I have never had a windshield do this on my other bikes. I am tempted to just pony up and go to a aftermarket version... but damn, Indian/supplier need to get this right.

I have both the freedom and the OEM. I have 2 hardware sets so I switch off. Just make sure not to over tighten the nut & bolts. Also try to use rubber washers instead of the plastic ones that come with the windshield.

Just cracked my 2nd Springfield windshield at 3400 miles. The first one lasted 500 miles. The dealer took pics. I requested a short windshield as a replacement. We will see what they say Monday or Tuesday. I have 9 months warranty left. This isn't rocket science.

Had dealer install new shield Saturday during my 500 mile service, hopefully this one will be good for a long time.

Hi, I have been trying to get screen warranty in the UK, can you give me any details of others that have got new screens to build up some evidence etc.?
Thanks
Ended up going with the Freedom Shield and very happy with quality. The re-curve is more modern looking i.m.o. My thought were "why go back with something that's not working". Could have tried a shorter one from Indian, but may have been in the same situation 6 months down the road. You'll use the same original hardware that say Indian, so it looks stock, only better. :D

Whatever the cause the 2018 windshields also crack. At 700 miles looked down and noticed cracks around the two center mounting bolts. I'll be calling for a warranty claim tomorrow.

I know this is an old post but I thought I’d share any way. I bought my Springfield at the end of October 2017, it’s now June 2018. I am on windshield number 4. First three all replaced under warranty. Everyone has cracked around the bolts. I’m going to try loosening all the nuts, ad a drop of loctite to the bolts and put the nuts back on hand tight. If this one cracks probably just gonna get a Freedom Shield.

Hey GT. I see you posted an older quote before I changed to the Freedom Shield. Windshield number 4, ugh? Number 3 suppose to be the magic number. Gotta say you don't give up. Go ahead next time with the Freedom Shields, you'll be happy you did.

17' Springfield....... Noticed two small cracks coming from the upper left bolt the other day and took it to the dealership yesterday.. They took pictures and sent in a warranty claim... Received a call a couple hours later that the warranty claim was approved and the replacement windshield was ordered... No issues at all from the dealership and Indian responded quickly.... Very easy process.....

I rode with my windshield from the dealership to my house. Took it off and put it in my garage art collection.

No cracks yet!

Seriously, I did reinstall it on a cold day in December when I decided to ride in at 32 degrees on a Saturday. Yes, we do have a minor winter season in California. Anyway, I couldn't ride above 80 miles per hour as the damn thing would buffet so bad I thought my head would explode.

Again, I took it off and put it in my garage art collection.

I am now going to go old school windscreen on my 5k summer trip. Yep, sleeping bag bungeed to the handlebar to divert the air up.

I am going to upgrade the actual windscreen at some point, but I need to test ride some differing heights to see what I really need at 80+ and I am not done with my research. I think it is a fine line on the torque at the attachment points. Too tight and they crack. To loose and the rattle or vibrate....
