Hello all,
I have had my RM For a couple of months and have just hit the 4000 mile mark. I think I can give a no nonsense impression now of my bike.
I came from many lines of bikes, most touring models. Last two being HD ultra classics.
The only thing I have added, so far, is hi way pegs. Backrest will be next on the list.
I am more than happy with this bike. I ride more on 2 lane country and county roads in a hilly area of Indiana. This bike handles the twists and curves better than any touring bike I have owned. On the interstate the ride is smooth and the electric windshield is one of the best ideas in my opinion. If there is a little more of a cross wind I can raise it more and get no buffeting at all. This also goes for the pax. My GF Says she loves the ride so much better than the HD. Seat is more comfortable and no wind buffeting at all for her. She can ride from fill up to fill up without any fatigue. Same from me as well. Says a lot with me being 6'6" and 265 lbs. now that it is getting cooler I just shut the upper and lower air vents, put the windshield up and get no air hitting me. That is a very good thing compared to my last bikes. I can now ride with cooler temps than I have in the past and be comfortable.
The power of the bike is more than enough. I'm to the point in my life where comfort is the priority over power, and this bike has it. In both areas though. The heat isn't any worse than my previous bike in warm weather. I was in Florida riding for a week and the temps were in the mid 90's and felt no different than my Hd's. The ride is smooth and the rear suspension is very smooth. The front forks are a little stiffer than previous bikes but does work and have not bottomed out in places I have on previous bikes.
On the maint end of it, so much better for general servicing. No more tranny oil, primary oil and adjustment of primary chain. Changing the oil and filter is much easier and cleaner than on the past HD's. No more oil dripping all over the voltage regulator and fwd engine mount. Belt checking and adjustment is easy and not harder than the HD's.
Putting air in the rear shock is a little bit more of a hassle than the HD's having to pull the side cover off to do it vs just opening saddlebag lid and it being right there. I have to check and put air in shock at about the same frequency as I had on previous bikes.
So, to sum it up, a very good bike, very comfortable and probably the best bike I have owned. Only time will tell if over the years the bike holds up without having to put a bunch of money into it outside of normal wear items. A very happy individual here to say the least.
