Hello all,

I have had my RM For a couple of months and have just hit the 4000 mile mark. I think I can give a no nonsense impression now of my bike.
I came from many lines of bikes, most touring models. Last two being HD ultra classics.
The only thing I have added, so far, is hi way pegs. Backrest will be next on the list.
I am more than happy with this bike. I ride more on 2 lane country and county roads in a hilly area of Indiana. This bike handles the twists and curves better than any touring bike I have owned. On the interstate the ride is smooth and the electric windshield is one of the best ideas in my opinion. If there is a little more of a cross wind I can raise it more and get no buffeting at all. This also goes for the pax. My GF Says she loves the ride so much better than the HD. Seat is more comfortable and no wind buffeting at all for her. She can ride from fill up to fill up without any fatigue. Same from me as well. Says a lot with me being 6'6" and 265 lbs. now that it is getting cooler I just shut the upper and lower air vents, put the windshield up and get no air hitting me. That is a very good thing compared to my last bikes. I can now ride with cooler temps than I have in the past and be comfortable.
The power of the bike is more than enough. I'm to the point in my life where comfort is the priority over power, and this bike has it. In both areas though. The heat isn't any worse than my previous bike in warm weather. I was in Florida riding for a week and the temps were in the mid 90's and felt no different than my Hd's. The ride is smooth and the rear suspension is very smooth. The front forks are a little stiffer than previous bikes but does work and have not bottomed out in places I have on previous bikes.
On the maint end of it, so much better for general servicing. No more tranny oil, primary oil and adjustment of primary chain. Changing the oil and filter is much easier and cleaner than on the past HD's. No more oil dripping all over the voltage regulator and fwd engine mount. Belt checking and adjustment is easy and not harder than the HD's.
Putting air in the rear shock is a little bit more of a hassle than the HD's having to pull the side cover off to do it vs just opening saddlebag lid and it being right there. I have to check and put air in shock at about the same frequency as I had on previous bikes.
So, to sum it up, a very good bike, very comfortable and probably the best bike I have owned. Only time will tell if over the years the bike holds up without having to put a bunch of money into it outside of normal wear items. A very happy individual here to say the least.

Great review and one of the most honest I have read.
I bought my RM around the 1st of August after riding HD's for 35 years. I haven't logged as many miles as you but do notice quite a difference in the rides and yes........ the windshield was a great idea.
Hey... don't forget the ride from Nashville to Brownstown and the stop @ Story Inn for a burger and cold drink. The leafs are changin' and it's a mighty nice ride.

We ride to Nashville several times a year. In fact, we were down there Sunday. Didn't stop in at Story this trip though. Was just a ride through and quick stop. Was a beautiful day after the crappy weather Friday and Saturday .

Excellent review - - good to get some perspective from a former / recent Harrley guy on some of the issues that have been bantered about recently ( seats, engine heat, air pressure system, maintenance). Thanks for writing this and enjoy the ride!

Excellent review, bought mine in mid July and have 5,200 on it and love it, in fact my wife & I both think that the heat from the engine is less than on the electr glide we had before this
Once agin good write up!

I bought mine in July and just hit the 6,600 mark on the odometer.

The only thing I have had happen is a fault code two days ago.
It was quite cold when I started it up and she was slow to turn over. She did start though. But the code popped up. No idiot lights present. Just the code on the screen.
Later that day, I referenced the internet to find the code and it was a low voltage warning on the ABS brakes. The code cleared on its own after restarting.

Looks like a battery tender is in my near future.

My wife loves it too.
We have taken two long trips on it.
One across 5 states.
And another to the beach in Florida.
It is our preferred mode of transportation.

It is truly an amazing machine.

Found Battery Tenders to be Cheap Insurance for the little things the Electronics do when sitting for any length of time .. Even though Ride nearly every day have gotten excellent Battery Life out of all Motorcycles owned in the past 10 Years .. Some are lucky enough to have the Dealers Pre Install The Pigtail, others like me figure is well worth the time to do it yourself if they don't ..

I've hit the 1000 mile mark. Overall I am very happy with the bike. The only thing that keeps me up at night is the soft paint. Trying to keep her clean without creating scratch marks is a challenge. The seat comfort is my only other complaint. But that is something I've had to deal with on most of my bikes.

Enjoy the ride.

I'm somewhat of a RM rookie as well at 1200kms. This is my first larger touring bike. My previous bike was a Suzuki Boulevard C50T (805cc) so this was a major upgrade for me. I was definitely a bit worried about riding the heavier machine but have been amazed at how well balanced and lightweight the RM feels once you get it moving. Certainly will need to work on the slow speed manoeuvring but even that is a pleasant surprise. I find the shifting smooth as silk and love the awesome power. It's a bit pricey here in Canada (I believe around $42K out the door) but the more I ride it the better I feel about that as well. It's a wonderful machine. Appreciate your review :).

Cheers

Yep, I've owned black vehicles before. Given how OCD I am about keeping them clean, its a little frustrating with this bike. Unfortunately cleaning can create actual scratch marks in the paint. The other day I had some bug guts I needed to get out, using a clean microfiber towel and some bug gut remover I applied a little pressure on the spot and it left actual scratch marks. I tried buffing it out with polishes and the scratch marks don't come out. Another example is I was at the gas station and got a little gas on the tank, I used a paper towel to wipe (not rub) up the gas and it left permanent scratches.

The paint is an actual issue for anyone that owns a 2015 or earlier bike. Most people with colored bikes probably won't notice it. The CEO openly admitted that they cut costs in the paint process (which they are fixing for the 2016).

Just under 17,000 miles on my RM. Early on had to tighten up the ground cable on my battery (selling dealer didn't think i had an issue becaues it started ) had to have the front brake ABS sensor changed it kept throwing codes...Have had my belt adjusted at three different dealers, last and newest dealer is waiting on parts to replace belt and pulley. When he came back from a test ride he informed me they would be replacing my starter due to it dragging. ...didn't realize it was an issue.
Yes the seat has ripples ,paint may have a few swirls in it, (adds charcarter) the air shock will be addressed next time in the shop...Factory tires have worn great but will changed in the spring...
And the fairing vibration will be addressed when I remove the inner to have it painted this winter.
All in all I bought this bike to ride! Yes it does have some small issues that will be addressed this winter, but I love this bike and would rather ride than ***** about the issues.....Ride safe...
