I've just seen that the Motul website has a selector for makes of motorcycle and the Indian scout is listed - amazing - if you follow their recommendation it leads to this:

I spent a lot of time talking to my Schaeffer’s rep and basically he told me that Indian/Polaris and a lot of other manufacturers use goofy viscosity like a 15-60 in their products to essentially force your hand into buying their oil. They can’t legally make you run their oil but they can “require” your oil meets their specs. And since the viscosity isn’t a common one most run their oil. With that being said, there are some very good and in my opinion superior products out there such as Amsoil that was was mentioned above and I personally run Shaeffers racing oil and have had zero issues! And not only are you running a better oil, it’s a lot more cost effective. I think an Indian oil change kit for a Scout is about $50......you can buy a lot of Shaeffers and Napa Gold filters for that!

So from this chart I would think that one should be changing their oil according to their climate! Why Do I need 15w/60 in Northern NB when the temps rarely go above 30, and drop down to -40? Wouldn't a 10w/40 or 15w/40 be better for the engine?

The 60 is more for the gearbox and tranny. Unlike cars/trucks and other bikes, these bikes share the same oil for the transmission as the engine. Thats why the viscosity tends to be higher.

Does anyone rune the Indian 15-60 in big Indians ? I prefer synthetic but Indian calls for semi-20-50. opnions and experience appreciated …. a converted Harley guy.
I have using the 15w60 synthetic for the last three years since I added the Stage 3 kit to my 2016.
Our FTR uses the same oil and last year I started using it on my wife’s Chieftain.

Go to the American site and you are able to purchase from the Indian website. Canadian website says "Dealer item"

Love to know how fresh the oil is.
No luck, nothing on the box and bottle code unreadable!

Mobil stated Oil shouldn’t be used after a few years; the exact period varies between 2 years up to 5 years, depending on storage conditions.

There is also an enormous market out there of counterfeit products, it's an international crisis, I'm not suggesting the oil kit you found on Amazon is, but I am curious on how the Vender would be able to purchase kits cheaper than us and still resell them at a profit. Perhaps it was sold off like yesterday's meat !
 
Get the Victory 15w-60 oil, it was spec’s for the Octane (read Scout here) and works great. It is a full synthetic, and only $13.99 a quart. I run a NAPA Gold filter with it.

In have bought for my Indian Scout also an Amsoil 15w 60 , 4 liters + Hiflo Filtro HF199 for 55 Eur, because in my country Slovakia , Europe costs an Indian Oil kit 150 Eur , available only by our two Indian sellers.
That is definitely a crazy price for it.
