@Dargo :

I have worn my AFX FX-88 on the autobahn already last summer. No probs with lifting up to 130kmh ~ 80mph on my Roadmaster. May be different on other bikes due to the lack of fairing, windshield, etc.
By the way, this helmet is only a look-a-like WW2 helmet. It is a DOT approved helmet.

Regarding the style, each to his own.
I like the style and the "comfort" on hot days.

Besides,.... While talking about safety while riding a motorcycle? Take the car, it would be safer.

Cu,
Sven
Sure, taking a car "would be safer", dude! That's a no-freakin' brainer, mein herr.

BUT, the CATCH here of course is that one can't get the same sensation of "flying but still on the ground" (banking into and out of turns for example) in a freakin' car and like ya get on a motorcycle.

So, what's your point? Somethin' like maybe taking ANY thoughts of safety into mind while doin' EITHER of 'em is somehow being "overly cautious"?

Sorry dude, but somethin' like that not only makes little sense but would also be a case of a use of "the false equivalency", and in English OR German.

(...although IN German, I'll bet you've got one of those really long compound words for that sort'a thing, huh!) ;)

LOL

I see them all the time. I don't even think anyone regards or them as German coal bucket helmets.
They aren't the same. They are similar, but not the same.. so as far as that goes, let'r holler..
Personally I wouldn't use one based on impact statistics that state that almost no impacts this helmet can guard from, are the impacts most commonly had.

My Dad was in the Pacific, his brother was killed by the Nazi's at the battle of the Bulge, I never got to meet my uncle. I have guys in my VFW post who carried an M1 rifle across Europe fighting the guys wearing those helmets. Sadly I am on the burial detail and we bury at least two of them a month. When I was a kid my Mother would take us shopping on Saturday mornings and we'd see numbers tattooed on people who owned the shops arms put on by the guys wearing those helmets. I would never wear one around any of them out of their sacrifice for me, just my belief. I know what it felt like landing in 'Frisco seeing those "people" waving an NVA flag. Thankfully some Hells Angels pulled up and dispatched them quickly. Do what you want. The guys carrying those M1 rifles died so you could live in a free country and freely express yourself.

@Dargo :

That sentence about safety wasn't addressed to you directly. Should have written/explained better.
A lot of people over here say that about ALL open face helmets. So if I am so worried about safety, than I should take the car instead.

The only thing to you was about lifting at highway speeds, etc. Normally nobody cares about the style of the helmet.

Would be or maybe could be different, if you would wear it on a right wing/nazi demo, but never seen that. Why? Cauz why wear a motorcycle helmet when on foot!

I have used this style helmet, to me it was because it was comfortable, yes, even at highway speeds. It has been replaced, but only due to age. It was one of the best helmets I wore. My father fought in Italy during WWII, and there was no issue with it. IT IS NOT A NAZI HELMET.

I really like the look and style of German army WWII looking motorcycle helmets.
Irregardless of their safety issues (being not full-faced helmets), would you wear one? Is it disrespectful to wear one, to the "greatest generation" folks? To veterans, in general?(I'm a Vet and I don't know).
Any thoughts? I know I just have to go with my gut feelings on whether or not to buy or wear one, but I'd like to get some other riders' opinions on this. Thanks!!!
This topic may rank up there with oil and exhaust threads...
While I understand collectors owning virtually any artifact for it's historical value, I fail to understand why anyone would wear Nazi gear of any type, whether it's actual or imitative. As the most evil regime that has ever existed, the Nazis don't deserve to be publicly represented. And, in my opinion, it's disrespectful to American allies, America and American warriors who fought the bastards.

So that means BMW is a nazi motorcycle.
Everything German is NOT Nazi, anymore than every American is a Klansman.

Sorry, Guys. I guess many of you are more "live & let live" than I am. And I am nobody's judge. But I've known American's who suffered and died by the hands of our enemies. If I see a rider with a Nazi helmet on, I'll just keep riding. But my thoughts won't be complimentary.

I was going on to go there. But didn't because I figured it was a can of worms.
Since that can has been opened let's talks facts over feelings!

this helmet, would be more like a Tao Tao (Chinese brand) MC with a boxer engine of its own design.. it's close, but it isn't not now, nor ever was.

again, it has coal bucket hints, but is not a coal bucket, side by side, they don't look the same and is why likely, most people don't give a crap, and the remainder knows facts

when this helmet has sides that go below the neck and is twice the size, with hard creases for the lower shrapnel flairs and is almond shaped than we have something to compare. As of now it compares best to non motorized activity helmets..

maybe I've seen to many coal buckets or know enough useless info on the era, like....

when do we talk about how the German coal bucket was used BEFORE and AFTER they were worn under the NSDP?

To add to the facts over feelings concept,, I'd just tell anyone with an imaginative and sensitive disposition that may get offended by a skateboard helmet with flairs, that its not a Nazi helmet. It's helmet loosely based on the Keisers German WW1 helmet. Or if one is really getting lambasted, avoid the German part all together and say its a Chinese Sino War era helmet. Or a Chilean soldiers helmet of current day..

Respectfully disagree. For one it's a copy of a German helmet, not exclusive to the NSDP. But main point is that while the NSDP was a Terrible regime it's no where near the worst.
Stalin made Hitler look Busch League.
More recently, The margin of error alone for those killed under just one of the Mao regimes policies triples the numbers the NSDP produced.

Correct. So if BMW (and so many more) gets a pass so should this.

Logic.
A helmet simply protected soldiers of many era's, and of many flags.

BMW simply moved people before and after the war. But during the war it's factories and products didn't protect people of more than one flag and it products killed 100s of thousands of people..
Which of historical happenings facts should be logically judged more harshly?

If I was the "sins of our father's"/ sensitive type, I'd go with BMW having blood on its hands over a protective device.. and let's not even get into VW.

Each time I see a German M35 soup bowl I remember a family member we lost in WWII, I remember the pain I could see in my mother’s eyes as she mourned her brother’s death, I remember The heart that feels tightened in a vice every time I think about it or at any military memorial event. So let's say it with a smile...F.Y

Im a vet and I had one. They dont represent the Nazi thoughts, they were wore by Germans.

All sensitivities aside- not to dismiss them, because they are real to the people who feel sensitive and strongly about the subject- the choice of some German styled regalia such as the iron cross and the helmet - are chosen to send a message by the biker to the general public. Rightly or wrongly, for many bikers it’s away of simply saying DILLIGAF.

The NEW American military style helmet. Any similarities?
concur — I have the Skullcrush PASGT-style helmet. I wore the PASGT tactically for over ten YEARS as a SWAT sarge so when Skullcrush came out with theirs it was a natural transition. Unfortunately mine did ride up with wind speed and offered minimal crash protection so I switched over to the Indian half-helmet after a couple of years. Ex- (and current) military guys liked it. The original WW2 German helmets did a good job of deflecting sun, draining rain, and were very well-balanced (compare to early ww2 Brit and Canadian “flying saucer” lids). Ie more functional and comfortable — politics aside. Hence their popularity IMHO.

Like I said earlier, those guys died for your freedom to make choices. Just because someones opinion differs does not make it wrong. I don't care if you wear a bedpan on your head going down the road, your choice. My Grandfather had a cigar box full of Iron Crosses I found after he died he most certainly obtained in France in WWII. I never heard him speak of the war much He rode Indians before any of us were even thought of. Never saw an Iron Cross pinned on him come to think of it. Upon reflection he sat alone at night a lot and didn't talk. I think it may have something to do with the Kiser's boys. I know some on here do not like old Indian photo's, sorry in advance. Here is my Grandpa shortly after returning from France, surviving the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918, and seeing his Beloved Red Sox win the World Series for the last time in his life (he lived until 1972)
