White helmets should not only be cooler in heat, but the added benefit of visibility is better than any color helmet.
This picture is from a BMW toy ride I did several years ago. Notice that the helmet is more visible than the hi-viz jacket I am wearing. After seeing this photo, I was convinced that a white helmet is the single best thing a rider can wear to make themselves be seen.

I never realized that white made that much difference in visibility but the photo does illustrate that.

I should have mentioned the visibility factor of a white helmet. That’s another reason I use white. Anything I can do to add visibility is a plus.

When the cagers are texting or talking on their cellphones, all the visibility in the world won't help you. The thing that will help you the most is a loud exhaust system. That will get their attention more than any color ever made.

I have been wearing white helmets for the last 6 years. First reason was for visibility. Over time, I have realized it's a little cooler, but only after a stop and the helmet has been sitting on the bike for a period of time. With the black helmets, you're stuffing your noggin in to a sauna - not the case with a white helmet.

Also, I frequently lead rides for my group and to the person, they always tell me they can see me ahead on the road - mostly due to the white helmet. I think it also helps that none of my bikes are black, but that's a different story.

I've got a dark, dark, grey Daytona Carbon Fiber half helmet. I wear it 12 months out of the year.

Never had a problem.

I wear a matte black and my bike is matte DH.
Went for a ride with the boys Sunday and the guy leading was on a black harley and white helmet
I thought ya know I can really see him well and so can the other drivers.
I ordered same style white as my black one this morning because of seeing reality that white has better visability.
Being cooler in the heat= Bonus!

My half helmets still haven’t shown that they shipped - label printed last Wednesday- so if they have to reorder I will go with matte white.

Or: loud horn.

Much more effective than a loud exhaust.

It’s easier to tune out a constant sound of any volume than a sudden one.

I have a matte black RF1200 and honestly I cannot tell the difference while wearing it. My previous helmets were matte blue and bright red... RF1000 in red

Wondering if helmet color notably affects how cool or hot a helmet might be in hot weather with strong sunshine. I live in the Florida panhandle and have always used full face helmets since the 70s. I have greatly reduced riding from about June 15 thru September 15 for the past several years as it is too hot.
When I was stationed in Orlando for four years in the early 80s, I had a motorcycle and my wife who worked had the car. At that time I was using white Bell Star full face helmets if I remember correct. Being younger the heat wasn’t as much a factor but I don’t remember too many issues even in early to mid 80s Orlando traffic.
Now I have a half helmet on order to see if that can help me extend my riding season. I have ordered matte black but wondering if gloss white might make a big difference. Realize you have a pretty good styrofoam insulation in the liner.
Has anyone done any true comparisons to see if helmet color can affect how hot a helmet is in strong sunshine? Realize a black helmet may (?) be beneficial for cooling when it is cloudy- black body radiation. Sorry, I am an engineer.

I lived near Tampa and rode all year round......in Florida heat it didn’t matter what helmet or what color it was..... they were all HOT......my black full face, burgundy Arthur Fuller modular, or even a half helmet....all hot. I wore a white Bell for awhile....no difference in that heat!

I live in South Florida and have been looking into a new, full face helmet. I currently have a silver Nolan full face and a black Biltwell full face. I had the same question about color and heat. Being anal about this stuff, I decided to do some testing. I put both helmets out in the sun for an hour and then measured the temperature with a laser heat gun. On the top, where the sun hit directly, the black was over 20 degrees hotter than the silver. As you moved to the sides and the back, the difference dropped to just under 10 degrees. The inside was only 1or 2 degrees difference. So, my feeling is that the black is hotter but no where near the 20 plus degrees that the top registered. I’m going with silver on the new one, since any improvement will help but mostly because it goes with the silver on my Springfield.

I cannot say about, but the white helmet saved my many times. Black helmets are not visible.

I always found white helmets work good for me in hot weather, plus it makes you more visible.

I have the Indian branded full face, it's multi colored, Indian Red, Gray, and Black, it's vented well, but I'm sure the White is coolest surface and most visible.
