WARNING: Handlebars Over 10" on Scout

Just a heads-up to the community for anyone looking to upgrade current handlebars. I had replaced the stock bars on my 2018 bobber w/abs with the Indian 10" mini apes. This involved having to swap out the clutch and brake lines with newer extended lines provided by Indian. It was a difficult project only for the fact that I do not have dainty little hands which were/is needed when installing the banjo bolts to the correct mechanism that is located in the belly of the beast (way under the battery box). Unfortunately, the 10" were still not a comfortable height for my riding preference and I'm currently replacing to 18" from Nash motorcycle products. Besides having to order custom brake & clutch lines from Barnett (which I still am waiting for a price quote) the other major hurdle is in the electrical wiring from the hand controls (Throttle unit on the right side, & Light unit on the left side). The issue is the factory wiring is not long enough. This was not a total surprise and figured I could sort it out and make it work. From my view, the factory wiring from controls down to the connectors (which is located in wiring bundle above headlight) has enough length to accommodate up to 14". I would even say maybe 16" but that might be pushing it and may increase the difficulty of making everything fit nicely. I just wanted to throw this information out to our great Indian community so anyone thinking of upgrading past 10" mini apes has a better understanding of the scope of the project.

I switched to the Indian 10" mini apes and the stock cables were fine. Indian designed them so you could use the stock cables. Of course my bike is the 2016 Scout 60. I didn't realize that you had the bobber until I reread your post. Please pardon my ignorance.

I don't know about the TBW situation(i.e. will the signal be "diluted" if you extend the wires, this is a problem we used to have installing electronics on boats), but we used to physically extend the wires by cutting the factory harness and twisting in a 3 or 4" section, soldering the connections, then sealing it with heat shrink

Could you tell me the differences in length between the 10" apes and stock bars? Particularly were the apes closer to the rider? Was the difference more in the angle degree of the handles (apes possibly being closer to 90 degree angle than stock? I'm guessing this may be the difference between the bar since cable length wasn't changed.

I still have them (stock bars, stock clutch cable, and stock brake lines) all wrapped up and stored in a giant Tupperware container. Direct message me if interested in purchasing.

Why not???????????????????????

His bike, his choice. I've seen people do a lot of things to their bikes on this forum that I think are about the dumbest, ugliest things anyone ever thought of. But I'm not paying their bills nor am I riding their bikes so I just move on. Unless they ask for an opinion I just listen to my momma who taught me "If you don't have have anything nice to say don't say anything at all".

The OP was posting a warning to help his fellow riders out. Good on him!
