Quickshifter. I guess it needs the ability within the ecu to recognise the 'shift' and then cut and reinstate the ignition suitably across all gears and speeds. I think a lot of calibration finesse is required to get that super smooth shift we all crave..but it can't be impossible as many other people offer them as OE now and you can even get them as aftermarket.

They won’t work on the older ftrs without major modification. So no worries about the color

Damn...I've got mixed feelings about the FTR R Carbon. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on a FTR S Race Replica for awhile now but some health issues and the pandemic slowed me down last year. I've always liked it because I'm a fan of "streettrackers" and the overall design with the flattrack tires and "replica" color scheme was great. I like the new FTR R Carbon for it's overall design, Ohlins suspension, and "replica" color scheme, but I would prefer the flattrack tires and an easily modded exhaust.

If Indian is offering 4 different versions, why not offer them like this:
1. Base version - entry level.
2. Rally/Adventure version with appropriate rally pieces and options.
3. Sport version with the Ohlins, 17" wheels, and sport color offerings.
4. Race Replica streettracker version with the replica color scheme, flattrack tires, black Ohlins forks.

I recognize that a lot of that lineup is covered but I guess I'm just trying to point out that a more authentic streettracker would only help the lineup, not hurt it. There are plenty of us that love the whole streettracker style and we keep waiting for legitimate offerings. To me, the 2019 FTR S Race Replica was about as close as I've seen so far. And don't get me started on the Harley offerings over the years 🙄. My current streettracker is a heavily modified XR1000...and I wouldn't mind having something a little (lot) more refined. 😅

One thing they missed is the quickshifter+blipper, that would be the biggest upgrade in terms of fun. Can other more experienced people here tell me how complicated the process to come up with a quickshifter concept, when you already build your engine? I guess you have to consider a quickshifter from the beginning when you build your bike?
I don’t understand wanting a quick shifter, it’s like having a sports car with an automatic transmission, just why? Is it quicker? Maybe, but if I wanted PlayStation shift I would get a Goldwing. I’ll take a clutch, keep the quick shifter. My 2 cents.

Its not. It’s more like a manually operated PDK transmission, you still decide. Shifting up is fun with a quickshifter, but the magic is shifting down with an autoblipper, right before a sharp 180, especially going downhill.

Just tap down and no hopping rear wheel, no swaying rear end. And no manual blip or clutch needed.

Ride a bike with one, it’s fun 👍🏻

Quickshifters don’t have auto blippers on the downshift, they just unload the transmission enough for you to slot down a gear without opening up the clutch. You have to have a slipper clutch for downshifting otherwise you risk locking the rear wheel due to the difference in engine and wheel speed of the lower gear. Thankfully FTR has a slip and assist clutch.
I’ve ridden a Ducati 821 Monster with up and down quickshifter and its great.

Every decent factory fitted quickshifter unloads the transmission by blipping nowadays. The joys of fly by wire.

I know, my other bike has one, so does the BMW S1000 to name another example.
 
I want the 17" wheels. Wonder how much they'd be off the rack? I definitely dont have the cash to spend $3000 on wheels alone, but I could go for $1000 or so. Thats probably my biggest complaint.

I could make an argument that I “need” heated grips in Minnesota....😂😂😂

I had a Jeep SRT with one(PDK type), never used it. Still an automatic to me with PlayStation shift. But, to each his own. I like the challenge of clutching, blipping, braking at the same time. That's why I like motorcycles, more challenging than cars that have these systems across the board anymore. Keeps me from going even faster on the roads that I'm not as quick as a computer, but that is probably a good thing. If I had it I still probably wouldn't use it for fear of it not working and tearing up the gears! I guess it's what you learn with.
 
Now the only way you get the awesome red frame is with the (most expensive) Carbon. I wonder if that will make the previous S version (it had the red frame as I recall) more desirable? It's only money - that I wish I had. LOL.
