Hi all,

I'm planning to ride Route 66 from West to East (LA to Chicago) in early October, and have two questions for y'all:

1. What's the weather like in the mid-West and Chicago in early October (finishing ride by the 15th)?
2. Any suggestion for a reliable bike shipper from Chicago to LA?

Any of you live near the route, let me know and I'll try to meet up for a beer/soda.

Cheers.

October in Illinois and Missouri should be OK.............should be. Too cool for me though. I'd rather go then in the spring.

No idea of who is good on shipping. Be careful there and do not deal with a broker. Deal with the driver/shipper/company first hand. Why not go there via 66 and come back the northern route thru Nebraska?

I think you are going to die. Having thin SoCal blood, any temperature below 50 will be intolerable to your delicate system. :) Actually, fall in the midwest is fine. You should bring some cold weather gear and some rain gear, but it is nice. Having left San Diego for Arkansas mountains 20 years ago, I expected to be really cold. But it is not bad. Get some layered riding gear so you can take some off as the day warms up. Enjoy the ride.

To paraphrase Will Rogers, "In Oklahoma, just wait a few minutes the weather will change." It could be cold, or HOT, it could be dry or pouring rain, and anytime in Oklahoma, you could be dodging a tornado.

October is a great month to ride, Have fun and contact me when you get near Tulsa, I may even ride a ways with you.

I have shipped dozens of bikes all over the Country. "Haulbikes" is the only company I recommend after having a couple disasters using others. You have to work around their truck schedules but bikes always make is there safely.

Almanac has been so wrong in the longest time now, and every weather station too! Radio or television. To restore our faith they should just say 'Tonight it'll be dark' you'll be good to go, plus you're only going one way! Wyoming and Colorado suck, so keep away from there! Nothing starts anywhere till later. You'll be fine. I've done that route so many times. Great trip you're in for, I'm jealous! Get on n go! Rubber side down! Do you have Roadside assistance? A can of tire repair a few tools and some yum yumz. H20 vest. Take us some pictures! Lots

I am close to Seligman. AZ. 66 Runs from Kingman, AZ thru Seligman and Ashfork. A part of it runs thru Williams and pick it up again in Flagstaff. Monsoon in Arizona runs into September with some pretty wild storms at times. You may want to change your route a little and visit the Grand Canyon during your trip

I don't mind riding in cool/cold weather, you can always layer up. But when it's HOT, you can only take off so much clothes until you're butt naked.:eek:

That's why I'm planning the ride in early autumn (October); no monsoon, tornadoes, and/or snow (I'm hoping)
