If anyone has any experience parking in a parking deck, I'd like to hear it. I'm taking the Challenger out to VA beach and all of the hotels I'm considering have a parking deck and minimal parking out front if any. This is my first time dealing with this.

I've read all the usual stuff about riding around the gate or the motorcycle not being heavy enough to trigger the gate, and so forth. Usually it's sportbike or ADV guys talking. I'm not interested in trying to evade paying the fee. None of these decks have a gate anyway. Also not really looking to discuss security aspects in this thread.

I'd just like to talk about the physical act of riding a 800 lb machine into a parking deck and parking it. Any advice yea or nay, do you think it's the worst idea ever, or no big deal? I'd appreciate any guidance!!

It's no big deal at all. Just don't be revving it up while riding around inside. The enclosed parking decks are like and echo chamber.

That would be exactly why I would rev it up, lol!

If I understand your question correctly, I'd be careful going through the gates where the arm lifts up. Several years ago I stopped at a gate in an indoor parking lot in Vail, Colo. I took my ticket, the arm raised and I proceeded through. The problem? The arm came down just as I started to go! Fortunately it didn't damage my bike. The arm, made of lightweight wood snapped off.

I have ridden in the parking structure at work many times over the years, and it is really not a big deal. I would suggest strong lane discipline though, so you don’t get caught in the oncoming lane.

When we were in Memphis three years ago, the hotel (Hapmton on Beale st.) had a parking garage next to the hotel. The motorcycle parking was next to the security guard shack at the parking garage entrance. The security guards told us we were parked at the most secure spot in downtown Memphis.

I was about to say no problem until I read below about the guy in Vail! Didn’t realize that was such an issue, good to know!

Do it al the time in Daytona, Fl. I always ride up levels until I can park near the elevator. You can also park a bike where a car will not fit.

Regularly park in the one in Inverness, it's free for bikes and they have their own dedicated entrance and parking area, they even have lockers you can stash stuff in. Upon exit you simply ride around the barrier.

I'll have to remember that. Just moved into the Vail valley and certainly plan to ride there.
