I'm looking to replace my factory exhaust. I'm having a hard time choosing between the crusher mavericks or vance and hines twin slash. which one is louder? I don't want my ears to bleed. All the videos I see are muffled. which exhaust has better fit and finish?

only you know how loud you can go. Mavericks were too loud for me and I've never heard V&H's not too loud. Only systems I know of that are not too loud for all day riding are Aeromach, Miller (but couldn't find supplier) and Remus (megabucks).

I installed the V&H on my scout w/o the quiet baffles and it pretty loud turns a lot of head ran a decibel meter on it was upwards of 90 to 91 Db. Had a few LEOs look my way so i purchased the quiet baffles for the pipes now the bike idles around 82 Db. Plus the extra back pressure helps when starting. The rumble is throaty (if that is a word) and you can feel the rumble in your seat. I have a youtube of mine will post the link

For me i have not remapped though the without the baffles it was close. She was a hard starter for sure. I went with the Vance & Hines because i had the option to add the baffles.. I live in Cali in a urban city with a bunch of rookie cops that love to ticket loud bikes so for me had to compromise, plus i had to find someone who would ship pipes to me in California some sites will decline. Was able to use all the Amazon gift cards given to me over the years to buy pipes for 50 bucks. Yeah i wish they were black like the Aeromach's or Basani's, but my bags hide them.

I am definitely happy with the RCX slash cuts. It's a low lumpy idle, low growl under moderate accelleration, and just plain badass during deceleration. But wouldn't you say they are a bit louder than average? Not sure a lot of people would want to live with these long term. Maybe I am wrong. If so, I would love to hear your opinion?

I have the VH slash cuts.. they are loud at idle, loud while accelerating BUT !!! quiter at Cruise then my Indian stage ones where.
When loud, they sound amazing, not intrusive.
oddly, my girl says you could here the stage ones more in the house that the VH when I start bike. (Sound frequency is a fun science)
They are actually bigger around then stock but a few inches shorter, and much lighter then stock.
And yes, they also have alternative baffles available.

Have had a stress test on battery etc etc all test out fine. They now think it is the starter. Seems more problematic since the slip ons. Plus it is running really rich. Have had it several times not start after about 5 tries on the start button have to pull the battery and charge it. I use a tender all the time as well. It irritating. Only bike in my stable to have this issue.

I agree. I have what i believe are two issues. One the idiot light is defective, so back to my old school way of things watch the odometer. My past two not starting issues is a lot like no fuel. When it doesn't want to start i am right at the point of needing gas and i don't smell gas when trying to start for the 5 or 6th time so it like i have run out. So i charge the battery and put a gallon in it, and it starts right up. Plus the idiot light will come then go off on off never steady The second is the starter is doesn't seem strong at all like it did when i first bought the bike. I also feel the bike runs really rich. My Chief has been a champ through pipe changes and has never given me a lick of problems. So this scout is frustrating.

I'm thinking all this has nothing to Doo with pipes...
The low gas long to start thing is common. try starting when pump is still running. Many have had luck doing that.
Your description of the electrical behavior is not. So I believe your issue lies in that..
BTW.
15 Scout. Had the service bulletin reflash at beginning of season.
Put on v/h pipes on mid season. No change at all to running, or starting characterisics

Okay, so I'm looking at getting some deeper sound out of my Scout. The factory pipes just sound weak IMO. However, friends of mine that have Harleys sound too loud to me.

I'm leaning towards the Vance & Hines Twin Slash. I have not found anyone local who has them on their bike to hear it in real life.

My question is, for those who have them on, in your opinion are they louder, the same, or less loud than a Harley in general? Thanks in advance for your understanding of my lack of knowledge of which Harley models etc. lol

I just heard them on an octane last weekend and I thought they were loud. A little louder than my rcx slash cuts. Most slipons are probably going to be louder on a scout than most harleys other than a vrod IMO. Different sound but louder. Maybe I am wrong but that has been my take.

The Crushers also have a nice sound to them. Not sure now which to go with. I have time to save $ for them anyway.
We also have slip ons that I'd encourage you to check out. Ours have the ability to change our baffles to change sound after the fact that would be nice for your taste. I'd recommend the full length ones as you will want a longer baffle. Also, keep in mind, whoever you choose that on a scout the catalyst is in the muffler making it a cat delete which will give you much louder pipes than say a similar part that has a catalyst in the header like the baggers for both indian and Harley. Also, since you are removing catalyst you won't have much back pressure and tuning becomes more important due to the amount you are opening up the exhaust. Again we have a quiet baffle that may fit your needs if you like the look of any of our options.

I have the Vance & Hines slash cuts. I turned the stock inserts and found them on the border of too loud. I live in a complex with an alley and the LEOs like writing tickets for exhaust. I asked my neighbors about it out of respect, and they said sometimes it wakes them in the morning. Out of respect I got the quiet baffles for pipes and start up in the garage before leaving. The quiet baffles are about 83 decibels where the stock were 92 or so. For me they sound good not obnoxious I also flashed my ecu which change the tone a bit. If I was in burbs I would go with stock inserts
