If my bike ever reaches that kind of mileage, I will replace it. 100k on a bike is a lot of road covered. You don't want it to crap out in, say Roggen Co. do ya? You won't find a dispensary there to ease your troubled mind.

Pretty much the reason my mechanic gave about the filter. I to am looking at a belt change out, 50K. Priced this at $700! Going to have the mechanic check it out when I take it in next week for the filter change. I did the 15K fork oil replacement ($600). But like The Who, I won’t be fooled again...

 

That is why I like to do my own work when possible. I can work to pay someone else.to work on my bike, or use the time at home to do it.

 

According to the service manual, start of production through 11/10/2015, you have the fuel pump with filter that needs to be replaced every 50,000 miles. If your bike is 11/11/2015 through current production, there is no replaceable filter and the fuel pump is maintenance free!

 

Wow that’s great. The manual for my 16 RM says replace it at 50K. Hmmm

My XCT has 155,000 miles with the original fuel filter.

 

Great suggestions. I run pure non ethanol gas most of the time and ride year round so the fuel never sits more than a few weeks.

How about the rear shock? Mine seems fine. No noise. Solid dampening. Manual says replace at 50k as well?? I think I’ll wait on that too.

Brake fluid should be replaced at some comfortable "interval"......as the fluid is attracted to water, due to temperature variations. Water in your brake system is not good. Keeping your bike in the off season in a climate controlled garage minimizes condensation in your brake system. Just my $0.02!!!

 

I still have the original fuel filter in my XCT with 155,700 miles. I run E90 and have never added anything. I changed the brake fluid once.

 

Just hit 65K on my ‘14 Chieftain and looking at the dealership service invoice for the 50K interval and those yahoos didn’t do the filter. I even called the service department and they did confirm that they did not do the filter. So if I get to 100,000 on this bike, maybe I’ll see about upgrading to the newer fuel pump that came out after November 2015. Would be nice if that was possible since it looks like you have to replace the fuel pump at 100,000 miles? Anyone done that? The fuel filter and the rubber gasket that goes under the metal plate are gonna cost me about 150 bucks it looks like. I have the factory manual so I guess the job doesn’t look too complicated.

 

The fuel pump/filter assembly can be swapped throughout... as far as not too complicated goes? Nimble fingers and small hands will help - the pump unit is tucked into the tank with only very limited direct access, must be positioned into and out of its bracket by feel. Definitely not one of my favorite jobs on these bikes.

 

I worry more about time than mileage when it comes to brake fluid. I replace it every other year.
