Can I put an E4 on the rear while keeping an E3 on the front?

Rear tire is going to need to be changed soon. Am I able to put an Elite 4 on the rear while keeping the Elite 3 on the front?

Front tire still has good tread left with no unusual wear.

Thanks.

Is your front tire cupping at all ? This tire is well known to me for cupping on the outside edge of the tread. Yes, you can mix them, but I wouldn’t recommend it. If your riding style is not aggressive you can but if you have more than 13,000 miles on your rear tire I would replace both.

Right now I have 8300 miles on both tires but the rear one is worn well almost 2/32nds/2mm and has some cupping. The front tire has no noticeable cupping and has close to 5/32nds left on it. That is why I asked. If I had more miles on it then I would change both.

Maybe I should just go with another E3 until it is time to change both?

The E4 is a much better handling tire, I have worn out at least 8 sets of these tires and am pleased with the wear and the mileage. Larry

Yeah the E4 tread looks a lot better and should handle wet roads better by the looks of it. Were you getting any noise from the E3 before you changed it? Mine is howling pretty bad at this point.

I don't have any experience riding with my E4s in wet conditions yet. Probably will in a couple of weeks on my trip to the Alps. I read great reviews and posts on this site about the E4s, so I pulled the trigger. I suspect I will get great mileage out of them (currently have 7000 kms), But... They are really easy to Spin if accelerating hard AND if I'm riding in the twisties, they feel like they slide sometimes. Probably great tires for straight line riding on highways and roads. Not sticky enough for me though. I'm still on the hunt for the PERFECT balance of performance and mileage. Factory tires, 24,000 kms. Ok tire, grip not so much. Pirelli Night Dragons, Great grip, wore out after ~10,000 kms. Metzler ME888 Marathons, Great mileage, worst grip of any tire I've owned. Dunlop E-4s, great tire, just not enough grip for the mountain roads I ride ALL the time.
