shannon O'Loughlin, executive director and attorney on Indian affairs has publicly called out the Indian motorcycle name. I don't know what the the average native American thinks but there is at least one at the top that wants to see it removed.

I thought that the indigenous peoples of North America are referred to as "Native Americans". So why should they be concerned with the name Indian? Even if Polaris folds up like a cheap kite in the breeze, I still own and ride an Indian regardless of what happens.

Why does it have to be put down? Correcting mistakes is a way of life.
It’s not correcting mistakes to tear down a statue of Lincoln, Roosevelt, or a lot of others. These people corrected some of the mistakes of the past, and should be lauded for it. They should be heroes to these fools. Nancy Green “aunt Jemimah” was a pillar of the black community and a strong advocate for black rights. These and others should not be erased from history, as they pushed the limits and did what they could to set things right. These idiots don’t even know that a lot of these people fought for what they claim to want now. I get it if someone is offended by a statue of Robert E. Lee, I am not, but if you are, then go to the city government and petition to have it removed. There is a processs for this that does not involve thugs throwing ropes around it and toppling it over. It needs to be put down because it is no longer about correcting mistakes, it is about anarchy and lawlessness, and cancelling great Americans like Grant, Roosevelt and Lincoln to name a few. Are you fu**ing kidding me? Lincoln???

Also, here in Australia, our tax-payer funded national broadcaster, the ABC, is advocating the banning of the game of chess as the white piece always gets to go first. Just prior to publishing that garbage they were whining that they need more tax-payer funds every year. This is the sort of left wing madness we are all up against.
Well who gets to go first in checkers, black or red?

Just wondering with the emphasis on changing names of sports teams that reflect anything to do with Indian is there
discussion of changing the Indian name. My hope is not as I am part Indian and I see the representation of the Indian heritage
and culture as being positive.
I don't understand what the issue is...we want our vehicles, sports teams, mascots etc named after strong figures. Sounds (to me) more like a positive thing..

@pablo94 you are a wise man and I have appreciated/agreed with all you've written in this thread. I can't say enough that you are correct about Springfield MA being very much about freedom... I believe it to be a reflection of most of New England, but having grown up just outside Springfield (Enfield CT) I appreciated your insight... HOWEVER I must split from the topic for a second to give you a bit of a hard time about your hometowns desire to steal the true history if Basketball.... Which of course also came to you from Springfield, via Canadian born John Naismith...

All in good fun, but honestly I do appreciate your well thought out responses that I think most would have a difficult time finding fault with. Thank you for speaking truth.
Yep, once again another tie tp Springfield, Mass. Our two towns are connected in a big way. You don't think that Mass/Kansas didn't play a part in Naismith coming to Lawrence. I'm sure it did.

And like John Brown. The philosophy/idea was birthed in Springfield, but the legend birthed itself dead center of American in Lawrence, Kansas.

I think it is great KU got the original rules and they are museum protected right there next to Allen Fieldhouse. I can't think of a better place for those to be...

I just want to know how you get into a group that has the right to be offended and then force your offense on others.

Reading a book currently.... Fortitude written by a retired Seal and current congressman. Very relevant to what’s going on currently.... he talks about ”staying outraged” it’s what these folks want.... mob mentality. It’s weakness and society being undisciplined. A victim society. People aren’t victims of others they are victims of themselves. It’s how we discipline our minds.

If you live your life as a victim, situations will present themselves for you to become victimized.

the natives of America are so diverse and originally distinct cultures,I seriously doubt there is any one answer to this.

My experience has been natives are pretty fond of the name - and originally the hendee co. Named their bike the indian scout in honour of them. If he had made a second bike called, ‘the colonizer’ i think their may be some blowback today....

im not sure if its true but ive heard before relaunching polaris got aoproval where they could for the headdress logos etc.

I don’t see a big backlash coming but who knows

The Indian name and logos are going nowhere period. Polaris has confirmed this on the official Facebook site. Also The Indian name and logos are the legacy brand that makes them money. It is embeded in American culture.

When people stop buying Indian motorcycles because of the name is when it may come up for analysis. Most companies out there today who are changing names aren't doing it really for the reasons they project. They are doing it to appear sympathetic and "good guys" to help generate good will which generates money.

Look at all these stupid commercials about the pandemic and how these companies are helping us "get through these uncertain times" and oh buy the way buy our crap, we will postpone payments blah blah.

Some of the brands are racist and have been for years, why all of a sudden now do they change. The almighty dollar!

Ya, you don't see them saying they will pospone payments to folks that have already bought their vehicles and can't afford to make the payments. They just want to sell more.

I hear you but I just never thought the name to be inflammatory. I’m just a white Florida Cracker so what do I know.:ROFLMAO:

Since I’m a firm believer in a free economy and generally against government control I’d say the owner of the business has the right to name it what ever he wants to regardless of the fact that some may not like it. If you own it it’s yours to do what you want with it.

If your name is grossly offensive you will suffer the consequences of poor financial returns. People can avoid your business if that’s their choice and financial pressures could lead the owner to change.

Is it against our laws to offend someone? It might not be nice or appropriate but we should have the freedom to express our opinions even if they are not liked or popular.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with my position on here. That is freedom.
Name the next bike after a Confederate General
Piss someone off
