The statues and monuments have been in place for years.... why is it an issue now? Because of an alleged police brutality issue in America. Its out of control presently. None of this would be happening at this magnitude if it weren’t an election year. Go back and look how this began and all the sheep that have followed. Look at the autonomous zone in Seattle, look at New York, look at Minneapolis, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Back to the topic..... Indian is iconic....1901, been around longer than anyone on the forum or anyone alive. It’s a statue, it’s a monument..... leave it alone.... good or bad.

I am struggling to keep this apolitical. I’ve deleted overt ref’s to blacks buying b-ball shoes and to liberals going back where they came from. No racism, no name calling, no inflammatory labeling.

Please, people — try to keep this apolitical — and civil.

See now you are being like them, trying tell people here what they can say and can not say

* response from Hink: Yeah, to a small degree whilst trying to enforce forum rules. The vast majority of posts are just fine. Somebody’s got to do it or the forum turns into one big shitfest. it’s not so much telling people what they have to say, it’s more a bit of what they cannot say mixed with a whole bunch of how they say it.

Too much fuss over this stuff these days. We need to get real jobs back to this country so people would be busy instead of having too much time on their hands. The non-working people are behind most of this nonsense.
Bunch'a brain washed white dudes with man buns have been arrested by the feds, along with some whacky white chicks and a few black peeps, for destruction of monuments and statues, some for murder too. According to the snews many of the people that were arrested hold degrees from big name colleges...that's telling is it not? Vote hard in local elections, that's where it starts.

Oh, for you paint throwing asshats out there, please use latex paint so as to help save the planet for your future inbred and or mutant offspring....thank you.

Do you really think the CEOs and boards of FedEx and Nike are kowtowing to non-working people? The investment companies and large stockholders are the ones pressuring these companies. The ones with the $$ are likely very much hard working people - not people with too much time on their hands.

Initially I wanted to agree, until I thought about how many votes there is among those that don't work.

I'll take the reasoning for the movement serious when everything with William Byrds name/likeness is removed. He was a Democrat Senator until 2010. He had also been a member of the KKK. Until then its all political BS by a very vocal minority.

Just curious how voting has anything to do with major corporations (FedEx & Nike) putting pressure on a private entity (Washington Redskins)? Voting with their pocketbook - yes ... that means people with $$. But I don't see a vocal minority being able to push over a mega-corp like FedEx. Hmmm, just maybe there are more people seeing the need for change than a bunch of lazy young people??

* merged thread from @Patty starts here

So a while back I posted a question do you think Polaris will have to drop the Indian name. Well now the Washington Redskins are changing the name. And with the BLM movement I truly believe it's a real possibility. Any thoughts on it. Any Native Americans on this site?? What's your feelings??

As I'm strolling through the news I read now the Cleveland Indians are in the works to change there name. 1915 is when the team held this name. So its coming 1901 isn't that far off..

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. Rioters and looters are not held responsible for their actions. But we are for something that happened over 200 yrs ago that we have absolutely nothing to do with. As these people are allowed to tear down American history this is our History. Nothing wrong with the name indian on a motorcycle. It represents a strong powerful good looking American Icon. No negativity there.

Civil ... with lots of work from the mods so far successful!

Apolitical? weeeelll ... I don't think so ... meanwhile we all know each other ... and it comes through ... again and again.

Human Nature (is social ... not to be confused wit the word with "ist" at the end)

Back to topic:

How about "Native American"?

Would that be ok?

( ok found the answer : probably not, because the tempting short form "NA" is to close to "N/A" which is widely used for "Non Applicable" which is too close to NULL/void etc ... LOL
Oh ... and worst case somebody would argue "what about the Non Native American, this is divisive discrimination"... which would lead us to a veeery long and slipery slope (hey ... keep your suspicious fantasy in check!!!) ...)

How about "Native American"?
Remember all the way back to my school days when I wondered why the name America is used.
I’m sure it was probably explained by a teacher or in a textbook.

Was always just some kind of oddity to me. European explorers, map makers using their names. Actually a feminine form for Amerigos.
The peculiarity being how easily people get attached to a naming.

What about "black" , as in black painted bikes. I find the name of that color to be offensive. Maybe the color could be called BLM instead of just black?
What about the color silver smoke my grandpa smoked his whole life until it got him. I dont know how much longer I can handle folks say there bike is silver smoke..
The Native Americans got screwed big time in so may ways by the Europeans and other immigrants/peoples that came to this country. But in my 69 years here on earth I've not seen or heard any news reports or stories about Indians striving to be victims, as do so many other groups and organizations in this country. That said, I don't think Indians would complain or at least I'm not aware of complaints about the brand name of the bikes we ride. If they (Indians, not their self appointed "representatives") did or do complain, I think it might be or would be a valid complaint.

Name a bike or bike model after one of the victim groups out there today and see how that goes over.
So true the Indians did get screwed over and they and others were protesting at Mt.Rushmore 2 days ago that they want there land back.

Inform the idiots that Manhattan and Long Island and the Hamptons were all once Native American lands, get the rich 1% to leave. After that show them their wallet, all those bad racist people are being held close their head, which is up their asses and pay for the lattes.
