2017 Roadmaster vs 2024 Roadmaster

I have ben to the dealership looking at the 24 models and they are quick to share the bells and whistles of the new models. I need an unadulterated not enhanced by the potential of making a sale about the difference between the two models. I love my 2017 with 45K miles and the only reasons would be (1 Heat & 3 Android connectivity)

I appreciate your thoughts and input

Heat … both would be equal… For your 2017, you have both Tuning (PV3 for example) and exhaust options (like de-catting) … The same exhaust options for 2024 (the head pipe is changed). Tuning is limited but the various companies are working on it … You could try a water cooled Pursuit … but they have some heat issues with the right foot … with the lowers on, open the vent 3/4 of the way … or remove the lowers … to reduce the heat …

Android Connectivity … I thought Indian was only doing Apple … but either way … if you don’t mind adding a screen to your bars … there are add on CarPlay/Android Auto devices now … I don’t have one, I just upgraded my Garmin DriveSmart 55 to a Zumo XT … These stand alone devices range from $60-$300+ … Here’s some reviews I found …

Thank you for your response. I have had the exhaust de-catted last year at the dealership. Not being very mechanical can you point me the direction to better understand the Tuning (PV3) option and can that be done at the dealership also.

I will look into the Connectivity options provided.

Most dealerships won't touch the tuning with a PV3. Basically it can be an EPA thing. The best thing you can do with a PV3 is purchase it from FuelMoto, then you get access to all their can tunes at no additional cost and it come with lifetime support from them. Others can chime in but I thought people had nothing but issues trying to make the Android work on the new RC system. Honestly for the RC system it seems like the original units that came out in 2017 ended up being the most reliable, that is after then incorporated software to keep the battery from draining down. My RM is a 2015 bike. Heat has not been very noticeable on that bike. I did a FuelMoto Jackpot header and a custom tune from the PVCX (the older version of the newer PV3). I'm surprised the dealer decatted the header. Most steer clear of such things because again it is a EPA thing. Dean

What are your thoughts on the High Flow Air Intake with Stage 1 Calibration from Indian.
Does the purchase of the PV3 require some mechanical experience.

I have the following for heat management on my 2017 : Vance Hines slip ons, Lloyds air cleaner, jackpot header, tune from CraigB 1960 and Capt Itch Crotch cooler. The most significant improvement came from removing lowers and using JES Customs wind deflectors for buffeting. I was out this past weekend 104 degrees and wasn't bothered by heat.

No. The only mechanical part is locating and connecting the OBD plug. It takes about 30-40 minutes, but stretched over a 2 day period. You plug in the PV3, copy the bike's profile onto it, and onto your computer. Send that file to Fuelmoto and they send you a new profile a couple of days later. Repeat the process on the bike. Go ride.
You have the option of loading one of their canned profiles and skipping the wait time.

If you do a PV3 and are not satisfied with the aftermarket tunes from FuelMoto we can get @CraigB1960 involved. He is the resident expert on the Power Commander tuning and can help out if needed. Dean
Last time I checked, Fuelmoto sent out two profiles. One was Craigs.

As stated previously, your options are:
  • Crotch Cooler (any brand)
  • gut the cat, or change the header. I installed True Duels and don't really recommend it. A lot of work, and you may lose some HP.
  • PV3 tune
