USB Charging Port Harness
Item #: 2883689
You can install this on your 23 Chief ABS. I did and it works great. DIY about an hour or so to install.

That Indian accessory plug to activate the USB port was many times more than this amazing USB charger and the Indian Accessory didn't include the USB outlet.
Not sure what you meant by didn't include the USB outlet. It was the harness with the USBB outlet in a small compartment with a cover. Plug it in and done, and its switched and fuse protected. Yes it does cost $120.

No, it’s not. I think some of you are referring to different models or something. Maybe different years.
It definitely is on my 23 SP. I use the battery tender if I'm not riding it and I use the USB on top to charge my phone on longer rides.

So my 23 SC has the battery tender port very low on the bike as well. But it's not a USB. It's a male/female type connection. The USB port is actually up top by the neck of the frame. I do agree though, it could be easier to access the lower port. I've found if I just flip the cap up that I can see the connector and tell which is male and get the cable on without getting on the ground.
100% this.
I had a 22 Chief and that was exactly how it was.
Battery tender stupidly low.
USB port (extra accessory) up front under the light.

Non-terminated SAE wire ends can be re-routed to moreb convenient locations (especially if it is more wire)

Common, I will be 70 years old this year. The only way to get to my battery tender in there is to basically lay on the floor.
Placing it higher on the bike would take less wire. It could also be used as a phone charger. I will give them very little credit though in a high quality port.
But common Polaris.
I think you have your terms confused. USB ports are typically used to charge phones. SAE ports are typically used for the battery charger. Here is a picture of an SAE to USB adapter. The SAE port is in the back. The USB port are the two at the front on the block showing 11.9 VDC. The port on the bottom of your motorcycle is an SAE battery charging port. It doesn't change the issue you have, just clearing up the confusion.

However, there are two options that you can do. You can either add a new charger pigtail to the battery or extend the SAE battery charging port using a cable like this so it's at a more convenient place to plug your charger into. I personally would add a new pigtail

Nothing confused on my end. The charging port under my bike (SAE) is used to charge my battery via a battery tender type device. If this charger were located closer to my headlight for example, I could run a cable that converts the 2 prong plug to a USB (SAE to USB A) for phone charging. SAE=battery charging port in my previous comments. I say no need to add SAE but here it is.

The Dark Horse has such a connection. The ABS model doesn't have that connection. You must add a small harness to a plug locates there to convert it to a USB plug. That small converter costed more that the USB charger I mentioned above that simply runs to me battery.

I understand what you're saying, but I think everyone is confused is because the title of the thread states, "Which genius at Polaris thought it would be a good idea to add a USB charging port on the extreme bottom of the motorcycle (23 Chief ABS)??" To which everyone is pointing out there is no USB down low, only an SAE port... The Chief models that do come with a USB port (DH models), the port is located up by the neck.

But why the SAE port is so low, doesn't make sense to me. They could have easily made one of the side panels below the seat house that cable and have it be tuckable away right in there.

I see. I will fix that. My error. Fixed.

The location of the sae port IS highly annoying….. on the Springfield, it’s located on top of the tank by the speedo.
My biggest concern about the location on the Chief is crud getting in there, especially if the cap pops open or one forgets to close it. It’s a bad spot for the seat’s allen wrench, too.

I think the guy at Indian that put that charging port on the bottom of the chief was the same guy that works for my city municipality that decided that Green barrels are for trash and blue barrels are for recycling.

Agreed on the battery tender charging port. AND the fact that it faces toward the down side when on the kickstand. could have at least put it out the other side (At least) . now for USB i have a 2023 Super chief. and you can order this part if your so inclined that is mounted at the frame under the tank. Mine came with it standard when i got it.

I have it plugged into a QuadLock charging phone mount and i can not say enough good things about the QuadLock!
Waterproof charging and anti Vibe system.

I run my heated gear through the SAE on the lower frame and I hate the location. My Ducati had it right under the seat on a very easily accessible spot on the left hand side. I'm constantly worried i'll catch the heated gear wires on something while riding. I wasn't blessed with a USB port near the front of the bike because I don't have the ride command.

I'm sure you can add the USB if you want. It just plugs in to a harness connector that should be on all models and trim levels.

Wrong, not on all trim levels.
The connectol

You struggle with facts, the 12VDC plug for the USB accessory is part of the harness for all models. Some trim levels have the accessory USB accessory already plugged in from the factory. Have you looked under the tank for the 12VDC plug?

I had thought about adding it, but at $20 for a universal USB charger through Amazon I just used that.

So what’s the point having a plug that requires a harness for a USB connection that is more expensive than a complete 3rd party USB outlet for your handlebar?
