Got away with it Mark thankfully. Was 'all over it' 5 minutes after my partner left for work. Had to spray indoors too as it was too cold outside. Had a 'pucker' moment when I mistakenly thought she had forgotten something and returned. ;)Pleased with the end result.

You the Man!
My luck - she would have come home and busted me right in the middle of the Bake!

Got out with a buddy for another longer ride today. The red ceramic based paint on the exhaust ring stood up fantastically in comparison to the previous enamel.

......Do you ride with anyone that dosn't have a show bike? man....they all look good. And good to hear on the exhaust ring.
My most frequent riding buddies all have bikes that have had quite a lot done to them bar one. His name is Jason and he has recently bought a 2016 Victory Octane with only 6000 miles on it. He is currently awaiting the manufacture of a 240 rear wheel from Your Side of the Pond and sourcing parts to turn it into a bobber. One could say perhaps "He's finally getting there!" 😂

Shame you guys have to ride with those billboard license banners
It is. Nevertheless we have so much more freedom in comparison to many others when it comes to other customization aspects of the motorcycle, especially the no emission checks, they more than compensate for the necessity of the billboards. Remaps, ECU bench tuning etc. etc. not an issue in or shipping to the UK.

Yesterday, I was going to troubleshoot the 12vdc supply from my fuse block (8 fuse) to my USB dual Jack in my left saddlebag, before I rode to the shop. Well, it turned out, that when I installed the new rear sissybar backrest, that I forgot to attach the ground terminal up under the mounting bolt for the saddlebag…
Well, it was getting late, so I buttoned everything back up, and put the seat back on, turned on the key and hit the start button… only to hear a ‘click’ and the bike was dea, no display on speedo and no lights, no camera, no action. So, I jumped in my Avalanche and went to the shop.
When I got home, I pulled the seat, and noticed, after inspection, that the battery terminal on the 12vdc + was loose! After tightening, it was good to go. There was a lot of dirt and grime, so I sprayed it off before tightening. It’s all good now!

I was Switching my bar end mirrors from down low to upright. I lost the nut that tightens the mirror inside the handlebar. The little elastic broke. So I was able to use weed wacker line with a nut tied to the end to fish the other nut out. Then used some tape to hold the beveled pieces together to reinstall. Took some ******* engineering.

RCX slip ons installed along with Indian adjustable shocks. A 2 hour fiasco. With only 10 of those minutes spent swapping out the shocks. Figured might as well install the shocks while the muffler is off. After 40 minutes of wrestling with the top pipe I think I moved it a 1/2" 😂😭
Anyway. All is well and am pleased with those 2 mods. The exhaust is loud on start up and through 1st gear. Almost as loud as my Harley Sportglide with a TBR 2 into 1 full exhaust. I'll have to get a decibel meter out to make a better assumption. While cruising though it's not bad at all.

Had to 'rework' my close out panel and chamfer a sharp edge off. Decided rather than 'run the gauntlet' of spraying indoors and baking motorcycle parts in the oven again to go and get it powder coated. Now this is where I had a stroke of luck. The shop had a large order on the go and it was black that they were using anyway. Dropped the part off at 09:30 and had the call a mere two hours later that it was ready. Ideal!

Joker machine mini floor boards and Amazon shifter/brake pegs (saw on a jimbobbington video). The floor boards make the ride a lot more comfortable. Feel like I could probably ride twice the distance just with those on. Or maybe it's the combo of the floor boards and adjustable shocks working in synergy. Either way. 👍👍

Fitted my close out panel and used some fiber washers to prevent damaging the fresh powder coating when doing the bolts up.

Finally after 15 months I decided to do something about my top close out panel. So much of it had to be cut away to allow the exhaust to exit and the rear securing point was lost as a result. The panel had lost rigidity and was loose from day one. It had bugged me and decided today being rainy was the day I was finally going to sort it. As the electrical paraphernalia under the seat had all been relocated including the battery this panel never has to come off again.

Packed the edges out with edging strip and sealed them with marine grade sealant. Had to use different sizes as the gap was larger at the rear.

Left it to cure and then plastered the lot with more sealant, cut a 1" thick rubber tape to length and buttered that with sealant too and adhered it down. Was a very messy job and the clean up process afterwards was lengthy and consumed a lot of alcohol wipes and latex gloves. Pleased with the end result as the panel is rock solid and the finished job tidy.

Where have all the 'Engineering Tradesmen' gone?

When I attended school many years ago in the metalwork and woodwork shops we had all the tools and machines we could ever wish for and over the years we were taught to wield them to good effect.

I wanted to add a small buffer plate to the underside if my exhaust and had two discs manufactured, one sacrificial one and another slightly thinner gauge which would make it easier to bend into shape.

An attempt was made to bend the first in a press using pipes without adequate 'formers' and the results disappointing.

The bend radius was not uniform to go onto the pipe which has an exact diameter of 88mm or 3.46 inches specifically the two outer edges. I then took both discs and went on the hunt for an individual who could guarantee a perfect result.

Custom Bike Builder: "We'll have a go but all we would use is a press and we can't guarantee the result!" Me: "No thank you that's been attempted once already!"

Three metal fabricator workshops and two attempts on a roller machine later on the sacrificial plate, and it was decided the two top rollers could not be adjusted close enough to pick up the edges when being rolled. The plate was too small to attempt to form it on an English Wheel.

I then remembered a good buddy of mine from school (we are going back over 45 years here) had a younger brother who attended the same school as us and had his own workshop local to myself. He has been in the metal fabrication game since leaving school. Two hours we spent just 'chewing the cud' and catching up on old times.

Ultimately he stated the task would not be an issue as he would manufacture an upper and lower former into which the disc would fit and be pressed ensuring it comes out with a perfect radius. People with the adequate skill-sets to perform a relative easy task are certainly becoming a rarity these days .

I started my Scout today! It's been in hibernation on the tender since November last year. She fired right up. Gonna prep her for the Idaho riding season in about 2 weeks. Ride safe--wish you all the best!
