Yes they are 100-200 dollars. $199 to be exact. I'm not big on saddlebags on my Scout. I have the luggage rack and a bungee net and that suffices. Although at $199 I did think about the bags.
Sounds like you're the one doing the self-convincing ;) . Have you seen the Osprey bags? They match the bike's styling better and are of a better quality for almost 300 bones less - Osprey start at $625; OEM are 899 or 999 for black or brown, respectively.

The Viking Bags are a compromise in style in exchange for price, I'm not in denial about that, but quality? I think you'd be hard pressed to prove the OEM bags pay for themselves in this category. Even in style, though, they are not stand-out ugly either. The leather and buckles compliment the retro styling of the scout nicely. With that in mind, I really didn't have to do a lot of "self-convincing" to pull the trigger on $189 vs. $899

EDIT: I also just remembered the OEM bags sell the mounting hardware separate to the tune of $149. Who is self-convincing again?
I can see your point.. and maybe I am self convincing.. I've convinced my self long ago, that motorcycling to me is about simpler life. I strive to not carry anything and ride to leave the clutter behind.. so, its obvious im not big on bags, so, theve been far down on needs list..I also am confused by dressers that being said..
So, since they, or space is not a need of mine, the form may be my bias admittedly and I find the factory bags to be most appealing in that department.. but, I can see that if space is someones need, that would be most appealing to them.. so, I repspectfull bow out, and say to each there own! Ride on! :)

the installation was easy. You have to drill the bags and take time and care to align everything properly. They have plenty of clearance on the exhaust side though it looks close!
Maybe the wife will buy them for her Sixty. The Black bags match way better then the Odin Brown does for the regular Scout. She always needs a place for her lipstick, sweatshirt, hat, foundation, chaps, jacket and the list is endless.
Time I got the bags and spools, I blew $1,200. It's not the size. It's not the color, so there's no sense slaying straw dogs. The mail slot opening is a constant annoyance, it's true. But, really, that's minor. It's the workmanship that flat out sucks. When you compare the excellent fit and finish of the seat, for example, with the bags ... they are made like cheap-ass crap. For $1200, you def expect better. I mean, plastic clips? That the best you could do? Couldn't find a way to cover the back side there? Plus you got a pair of those expando rubber wine bottle plugs is all that's holding them on. How long are they gonna last? Feeble. Really feeble.

I feel like the bags were a rip.
decided to stay with the viking brown bags. Mounted easily enough. I like the size and the lock. The brown matches my grip wraps and jacket View attachment 45600 View attachment 45601 View attachment 45599 .
Have you noticed the mounts interfering with the belt guard?
What is your overall assessment now that you've had these for awhile?
Have you had any damage to your bike from the hardware of bags?
How have they held up?
Have you had any rust problems?

I am considering these bags as I have a couple trips coming up soon and I don't want to pay for OEM right now. I appreciate your time. Thanks.

Which bags?
I know it's an old thread so don't berate me for asking this here. I just want to know if you can install a sissy bar on the Indian along with these bags?

Yes. I have one on the spools, remember to get them before you install the bags, as the spools will space out the Viking bags enough to miss the belt guard. I bought a passenger backrest/six pack rack from eBay, and have all that installed along with a Corbin Brave/Gunfighter.
