They'll have a big Veterans' Day assembly at my school tomorrow. They invite all the local veterans and march us into the gym while the students cheer and clap. The band will play the various service branch anthems as the veterans of each stand and salute. There will be speeches, poems, and prayers. The students have prepared a multimedia presentation with photographs honoring local veterans deceased, living, and still serving. Sometimes I get a little choked up. I figure I'm there representing those who didn't make it back. Then we'll all go to the school cafeteria and sit down to a brisket dinner while the students sing and dance in our honor. I love small town America.
It is people like you who give us the right to choose. I never served in the armed forces but have been a merchant mariner for 30 years. I thank each and everyone past and presant for keeping us safe in these turbulant times. May god bless you all and keep you safe.
