Um I don’t think this is right !! Brake pads

Finding a cut on m rear tire the other day, I ordered a 170 70 16 Avon cobra chrome, got the delivery notice today saying it arrives tomorrow, so off came the rear wheel, and figured I’d look at brake pads while I have wheel off, ( rears have felt squishy lately) and lo and behold , the pads are trash, but surprisingly the backing plates are bent ! I’m guessing this is a heat warping of the pads and I’ve never seen any look like this in my life !

Looks more like the ears are not moving with the center of the brake pads, like they are being held open and pad is getting bent in center trying to reach the rotor, heat won't do that without damaging rotor, check for binding on slides or caliper grooves. Never seen that before!

WOW! I have NEVER seen a brake bad like that before… is the rotor blued at all? Has anyone worked on the brakes lately? If so, it’s possible they put the pads on the same side of the rotor, the side closest to the caliper puck. In your photos, both pads are bent, and the curve is similar. This wouldn’t happen if they were binding on opposite sides of the rotor. Check the caliper ears on the outer side of the rotor for wearing or scoring of your rotor.

Good choice of the 170/70-16 Avon Chrome!

Holy crap! That is impressive in a bad way. I cannot imagine heat or binding would be the cause. Even the outer pad backing plate is bent. WOW! Is your rotor OK?

If your rotor is ok, I would throw a set of new pads on and bring the old ones to the dealer to look at. Brakes are typically not a warranty thing, but this issue seems a little unprecedented.

Rotor is fine straight has a small amount of bluing , pads were on both sides of rotor, no noise, vibration, the outer pad opposite of the pin was definitely not moving and didn’t want to come out, new pads on the way

it makes no sense to me at all , don’t understand how this is physically possible

If your rotor is blued, that’s from the pads being in constant contact with your rotor. Is it possible that you had your foot on the brake pedal without knowing it? I had a fellow take my 2006 Concours for a ride before he bought it, and his boots were on the rear brake pedal and he didn’t know it. By the time we had rode 20 miles, and returned to my driveway, the rear rotor was blued.
Now, that wouldn’t explain your backing plate on the inside pad being bent, and thebrake materiel being worn in that pattern, but if the pad was hanging up on the pins, then I can see hydraulic pressure bending the inner pad, and then I if the outer pad was binding, it would wear funny also. Check the brake caliper slider pins for any notching, or strange wear before you put new pads on, and use high temperature grease or Never seize on them, and the slide points on your new pads. Hope that remedies your issue. If you do find any wear points on those pins, replace them.

Feet always point outward so not touching lever , I’ve always been conscious of that, and will check pins / sliders, thanks Charlie

Tire mounted and pads arrived today, I’ll get some better pics of these jacked up brake pads this evening as I inspect-in more detail clean and replace.

All of the slider pins are scuff free, however they were definitely stuck have some caliper lube in them now and everything moves freely again , now I just need to figure out how to get pads separated enough to get the rotor between them as I put the wheel back in place

Caliper was bound up so on the bottom, bent the hell out of the outer pad backing plate, had rotor checked while getting tire mounted, true and flat so I still don’t know how the inner pad got bent, but the backing plates were hot as hell, totally black and blued

Looks great! I like that 170/70-16 on there, it fills up the rear a little more. How does it look to you?
Charlie
It looks much better than the cruisetech fills up the fender better , and definitely stickier just rolling it out to the truck it picked up lots of small things,

Avon has always made a very good performance tire, I have Avon RoadRider tyres front and rear on my Royal Enfield 500 Bullet. I remember the Speedmaster MKII front tyres, back in the day, great grip!
Charlie
Test ride,, brakes are good, can trigger abs if I need to again , belt tracking exactly where it has from day 1 , next test a hard launch to see how sticky these Avon’s are 👍😂

20 min test normal riding braking rotors are cool and can be touched, as far as hard launches goes I really wish I had someone recording my tests, a smooth quick clutch release while increasing throttle at 3k launch it just goes, at 4K I lift front about 6” while leaning forward and at 5k comes up a little higher and gets a tiny tiny amount of wheelspin 🤙, with cruisetchs I never lifted front wheel and spun a lot at anything over 2750 rpm
