I don't have the tire sensors on my 2018 chieftian. I assume most any dealer would be able to add this option, curious if anyone has added it like I am thinking about and is it worth it, I know I was on a long ride last summer and wished I had it a couple times.

If it was not equipped with them the only thing I can think of is maybe the Dark Horse Chieftains might not have came with them. But I would be very surprised at that. You don't at a TPMS warning when going down the road? Dean

My 2021 SDH has them and from day three the rear wheel sensor has not worked half the time. Have had them on cars and they fail often.

Personally I think it's a overpriced gimmick. Yes I understand that the majority of the population is incapable of setting tyre pressures these days which is why they have them. But the same.... challenged people tend to ignore the TPS warnings anyway so... is what it is.

I personally don't feel it's a worthwhile expense. But to each their own.

Normally the base models don't come with them. They didn't on my Challenger anyways.
I had them added by the dealer and glad I did. The back tire is a PITA to check.
You can find valve stem extenders at any auto parts store. They are about 2 or 2 1/2 inches long and they make checking pressure much, much easier--but you can't use them to add air. For adding air get one of those extension hoses--they are about 11-12" long, screw one end on your valve stem then the other end is 11-12" away from the valve stem. And when I add air to my Challenger rear I add 1 or 1 1/2 lbs. more air than what I really want cause even unscrewing the extension hose off as fast as you can you will still lose 1 or 1 1/2 lbs. Man! I thought checking/adding air to the rear tire on my Harley RGU was a PITA but the Challenger is definitely harder.

On my Chief Dark Horse 2022, I have put the FOBO 2 sensors. You read the pressure from an app on your mobile phone. Very happy with them. You set the pressure limits and if things start to drop you get an alarm warning. Easy to use.
I never had air pressure sensors on a bike till I got my Challenger. Way cool! During most of my riding I don't need to be watching the GPS map on my screen so I keep the screen up that shows tire pressures and my speed--much easier and quicker to read my speed on the screen rather than look at the needle on the speedo in the instrument cluster. Even if I'm traveling and using the GPS map screen I still quite frequently flip to the screen showing my tire pressures for a quick check then flip back to the map screen.

Now, when the time comes and it is necessary to have the sensors/batteries/whatever in the TPMS replaced, well, we will talk about it. I do like the TPMS but I ain't gonna pay no arm and leg prices like my Indian dealer seems to want for everything else.

I want to add them to my Challenger in the spring when it is time for the riding season. How much were you in for the sensors, dealership install and out the door if you don't mind me asking?

I seem to recall a post that stated buying TPMS sensors from IM was about $100/each. However, if AliExpress still has them, these are exactly the same - at a much lower price.

Cheaper to purchase Fobo 2…. been using them for the past 2 years with no issue. Had to change battery after about a year but that was easy. Indian will charge a handsome ransom to install or change out the originals when they die.
Boy howdy. Each sensor is ~ $130, this is the part only. No labor

Yup, I went down this road. Purchased the tool from Amazon to set them, never did get them to work, regardless of what I did. I'm betting that a dealer could get them working in 5 minutes, but mine wouldn't touch it since they weren't the actual Indian product.

Or somebody deactivated accidentally(it can happen, thru the menu), to reactivate-you need to go to dealer...
You know what really sucks about that? I had ordered a new TPMS sensor to replace the one in the rear tire last year. The sensor arrived after the tire, so it did not get installed. When I had the front tire replaced this year, I had them install the sensor in the front, because that one had quit working as well. They could not program the front sensor because you have to have two working sensors to program the new sensor. If one of the sensors is not working, the bike will not finish the process of programming the new sensor.

The base model Chieftain that was offered in 2018 did not come with Nav or TPMS.

You may just need new batteries.
The batteries are hermetically sealed. If you attempt to replace the batteries you will probably destroy the sensor. If not, the seal will at least be screwed and the longivity you get from the battery replacement will not be worth the effort.

FOBO as mentioned is one option. However, I believe that you should just be able to purchase TPMS sensors and activate / link them to RC ( I believe there may be a thread on the forum where someone has done that ). You can also search the web for other sites that sell the same sensor, but just not through Indian.. Search for TPMS sensors 2412417. A few years ago, I purchased a couple from AliExpress for around $10 each and they worked fine. I posted that link and a few others had the same success.

@Caprock based on everything I’ve read, you still need a relearn tool to marry the new sensors to the bike. This relearn device pic was posted on an IM site sometime ago & is supposed to work on our Indians.
