Greetings,
I'm just curious if failure of my 2017 Chieftain Limited Thunderstroke 111 engine is a rare happening, or are there others with a similar experience.
I purchased my bike new on June 15, 2018 from my nearest Indian Dealership. The bike was a "Demo" with 147 miles at time of purchase. over the course of the next three weeks I was only able to put another 291 miles on her. On July 5, 2018, while traveling home doing 55 mph, my engine started making a lot of noise, and lost power quickly! The engine lite and oil light came on as I looked at the gauges. I immediately pulled over and shut the engine off! It appeared to me to have a blown head gasket, due to residue on the left side of the front jug. I had it towed to the dealership, and several days later was advised the gears to the oil pump had shredded, and that there would most-likely be other damage to be found. After consulting with Indian I was advised that a new motor would be installed under warranty. The bad news, I was told it would take 5 to 7 weeks to get the motor and then a few more days for installation. And, that it could even be longer!
Needless to say I'm not happy about the lengthy delay, but happy to be getting a new motor!
I have heard of one other owner who suffered engine failure due to the oil pump while on his "Endless Rider" cross-country adventure chronicled on youtube!
In reading about his engine failure I read that the engine manufacturer is currently out of production for an extended time! Has anyone here heard this? I cant imagine there is not new engines sitting in a parts warehouse somewhere to better able to serve their customers.
Can anyone confirm, or provide information to the contrary? Meanwhile, I'm making payments on a bike i cant ride for maybe 2 months or more!
