A great film, even though Anthony Hopkins "Kiwi" accent grated until I grew to accept it. We lived in Christchurch, South Island, for many years, prior to the earthquake that ripped the heart out of the city. Invercargill, where Burt is from, is down the bottom of the South island - pretty far from anywhere. Burt is a real hero of mine. He typifies the classic Kiwi can do attitude. A bit of four by two and a piece of no.8 wire and you can make anything :).

All my bikes have been girls - I even named a bonnie, Constance, after my mum; not sure she was impressed, but she went pillion on it once when she was in her late 70's! Our Pursuit is "Burt" in honour of my favourite Kiwi hero. I watch any videos / read any books I can get on Indians, but few mention Burt Munro, which is a real shame.

My wife is a Kiwi. And no I didn't meet her on Facecrack, I met her way before Al Gore invented the internet. When the movie came out we had to go see it of course an Burt is a National hero in New Zealand. There is a scenario oft repeated in the movie where Burt Pisses on the lemon tree. The first time it happened our kids who were young at the time said almost in unison,"Look, Grandpa" as my Father-in Law was known to piss on his lemon tree. I guess it is a Kiwi thing, not sure not too many Lemon trees in Maine. I have been to Invercargill and got a nice t-shirt at the Hardware store Burt used to trade in. I'm headed back to the South Island in February and will see if I can find any more of these photo's hanging around.

The pissing on the Lemon tree is indeed a Kiwi thing. Mainly because most quarter acre sections for residential housing all had at least one lemon tree on them. A great source for hot lemon drinks when winter is upon us, good for the common cold and of course cooking. The pissing bit simply comes from friends, visitors (usually guys, haha), when on the beverages would just take a piss on the tree instead of venturing inside the house to the toilet. That was left for the ladies and number two sessions. BURT is indeed one of our true legends and his great nephew, Lee Munro, is carrying on the family trait riding bikes for Indian Motorcycle at Bonneville Salt Flats too.

A very good friend who later owned one of the best private Harley Dealerships in Australia came from Invercargill as a lad. He told me about a time before he left NZ when he ran out of petrol on his trail bike. He was pushing it past Bert's house, and Bert saw him, & came out. Bert was known to be a bit gruff, so the conversation was something like 'what's wrong with your bike son.' Dave stuttered back, (knowing Bert's legendary status already) 'it's out of petrol Mr Munro.' To which Bert said 'wait here.' He wandered inside and came out with a small tomato can full of petrol, gave it to Dave and said 'this'll get you home.' What an incredible story his is though. The other equally incredible story of a great inventor is of the late great John Britten and the Britten V1000. It was an absolutely incredible bike that blew away the elite bikes from the BIG factories. Sadly John died very young from the big c, but the bike is very very special.

I was at Walmart today. Parked my CBDH and was about to go inside. An old gentleman approached me. He told me his dad rode an Indian. This gentleman was in his 70s or 80s so his dads bike must have been really old.
Anyway he recommended I watch this movie. Its based on a true story. Its a really good movie. I recommend you watch it.
I have never seen it. but it is on my list for this weekend. Thanks

I thought everyone who rode an Indian Motorcycle knew about this movie. Going on 20 years old now. IM themselves made replica's in the last several years for publicity and homage to the legend. One is sitting at Spirit Lake.

I've seen this movie 3 or 4 times, great movie. When someone asks you what is your favorite movie of all time, I tell them that's impossible because I have to break them down. For instance, war movies, which war, which theater of operations (Europe vs. Pacific), sports movies, boxing or football or baseball, and so on and so forth. That being said, "The Worlds Fastest Indian" is my all time favorite bike movie...

This is a great movie for the whole family. Unfortunately movies like this today have been replaced with movies advancing Hollywood's socialist agenda. When we watch a movie today, we like to guess when a man or woman will kiss one of their own sex. Then we turn it off.
Worlds Fastest Indian is a classic that will endure. It's a movie that will touch your heart.

Added; It was pointed out that there is quite a significant part of the story that involves a transvestite. Yes there is but they handled it in a very loving way. Not so much in support of a movement.

There was a Trans character in the movie. It had nothing to do with the story, the character was there just because.
