i just finished doing the exact upgrade to my '14 chief vintage with the Osprey and TCMT setup (27.5" spools).

i would not use loctite on the bolts, just snug them down but not too tight.

one thing i suggest you do is to space the feet that rest on the pipes down more. i used 1.25" M6'S with 9 washers per screw. this makes the feet rest on the pipes on my bike and won't stress out the upper bolts that are holding the weight of the bags.

i also ordered the polaris 12VDC aux outlet from amazon. it fit into the back of the right bag perfectly and plugged into the provided brown and black wires.

its a great setup -
Excuse my ignorance please.
What is the tcmt?

TCMT is a Chinese manufacturer that makes parts for Indian Motorcycles. It is my suspicion that they also make genuine factory parts for Indian/Polaris. I bought a set of rear crash bars for my Chief. They fit exactly, and were considerably cheaper than the "factory" set. The only thing that was missing was the Indian stamp. In 3 years the chrome is in perfect shape.
Would anyone have a link to the hard bags from TCMT? I'll look now. Is it the seller name or product name?
I'm in the process of looking for bags and I was going to go the Ebay route.
Thanks

Do the TMCT bags have the oem hole/recess for the 12v plug to mount straight into?

If you are putting on hard bags and adding a sissy bar, you want the Chieftain spools. They do not come as a set... almost double the price of the regular set of Chief spools.
Thanks mate.
So buy OEM or Osprey but need to be Chieftan because the hard bags do not come with or have the correct spools to mount OEM sissy bar at later stage?

the bolt length i used is 1.25 inches. i am using 9 washers between the bottom of the bag and the foot that rests on the pipes. i also retapped the screw holes in the foot as they needed cleaning up a bit.

hope that helps.
I bought TAB Performance Zombie slip ons for Chieftain so I already have the tabs for the feet of the bags to sit on.
I'm hoping I will not need washers under the bag to lower the feet.

bowling - i have oem mufflers from a chieftan with the tabs for feet also - still had to put longer bolts with washers on. Bags were adjusted to lowest setting on top bolt slot. after i redid my washers in rear this spring i have a nice solid bag. last year rear feet were maybe a 1/4 inch off and bags wobbeld quite a bit.
Oh ok.
Thanks for the heads up.
I'll check all of that with a mock set up first before I hard mount them.

aren't the 2019's the year they switched bag styles? these are mostly the rounded follow your fender type bags, not the sqaureish new ones.
In Australia the bag shape went to the square shape (uglier in my opinion) on the 2020 model. 2020 model also one peice rider/pillion seat and different handlebars

I purchased the extra large Viking bags last year for my dark horse. And didn’t quite like the way they looked on the bike. They sat high, and didn’t flow as nice as the factory bags. So I ordered these TCMT bags, install was a breeze, with help from all you guys on here. Thank you!! But, I found the Viking bags to be a better quality, for about the same price. Minus the electric locks, and bag liners. O, and I didn’t have to get these ones painted.

Did you connect electric locks and put button in tank bib and get a new fob?

No I have not yet. I will pick up what I need when I can get to the city. Just received the Polaris 12v DC plug in mail yesterday, and a piece of the plastic flange was broken.

Ok thanks.

My TMCT bags are due today. Looking unlikely though as it is already midday here.

Could you keep me posted on if and how you do locks?

When my bags arrive can I use one of these? It is a dual 12v usb socket.
Why does everyone put OEM cigarette socket in?

Thanks

Waiting for osprey spools to come so decided to put a Narva twin USB socket in the original hole for the cigarette plug.

Indian were crafty in their design, making their cigarette socket smaller than a standard socket. They also make their male positive terminal on their socket smaller than standard meaning the plug on the brown positive wire was to small to fit the Narva socket.

Easy fix, use a dremel to grind the original mounting hole bigger.
Mark, cut and grind hole in lining (unfortunately the lining is not a precise fit so I was unable to get flush mount to lining with socket and get the retaining nut on, so had to make lining hole a little larger and mount socket to the handbag only).

Cut plugs off cable to make same length I cut both plugs off. Put new plugs on, both same standard size now.

To get the grommet to mount from the outside I had to cut the wires and rejoin near latch so that I could feed them through, outside to inside. I also had to dremel the hole for the grommet and use lubricant on the grommet to get it in.

Hinges were hardest to do as carpet holes did not line up with bolt holes.

I also have to grind (today, I ran out of time last night) a bit off the base plate for the bags feet as it hits hard against the bottom of the bag and is pulling the liner away from the top of the bag as a result.

I've gone 4 washers under each mounting foot. I hope this will be enough. I used M6, 30mm bolts, I will need longer bolts if I need more washers as I have bolted through the carpet to keep things in place.

Pretty happy with the results though.
