Really?
I'd say the FTR definitely is but as with everything bikes - it's all subjective
With all the threads describing the fueling, inconsistent throttling issues and random shutting off of that rushed-to-market bike, I don't think it's better, even from a subjective standpoint...

the FTR technical section is the thing of nightmares...

all those problems are fixed with an aftermarket tune, which most people would put on any bike once they change the exhaust anyway.
definitely not a nightmare - had mine 2 years and love it.

I expect a new motorcycle to work correctly. I can understand a faulty part that would be addressed under warranty. But I except fueling, brakes, suspension to work as excepted. I shouldn't have to pay for new tune to make a new motorcycle ridable.
If I wanted a beta-test motorcycle, I'd buy HD...

Exactly

no one intentionally says "let's roll out a piece of crap and force our customers to buy a tune for it to make it ride better"...

shoulda kept the Scout team on the Challenger and FTR Team...

Maybe some aftermarket pipes can save the look of the Sportster S, but currently I find it hideous. Also, the Scout is 4” shorter at the seat which is great for midgets like me. I have no interest in the Sportster S and don’t think I will feel like the Scout was the wrong choice. The Scout Bobber looks badass, and with a bit of customization, is a great bike.

The scout you feel like your inside the bike that harley you feel like your on top . A harley demo ride near me a few months back had a few of those to test ride with a bunch of other bikes No way that will be a bike that rides or feels like the scout or the scout bobber .

This motor is not comparable to anything Polaris builds.
I think it’s a small glimpse into what is to come.
I suspect the bigger news will be we’ll see a higher revving 45 degree traditional twin with variable Valve timing..possibly water cooled.
Game over.

Indian is selling hellouta the Scout as it is. I'd like better brakes, better shocks, and cruise control. But it's a pretty awesome ride as it is. Especially for the money.

I was waiting on the Bronx, but went FTR when it was cancelled/postponed. I thought it was a gorgeous v-twin. The Sportser S is butt-ugly to me. 😝

Cruise control is easy. MCCruise out of Australia. Excellent company and product, easily installed and works like a champ.

At $500+ I wouldn't call it easy, exactly. Doable maybe.

But I've spent so much money on bikes this year already and after losing my ass on my totalled FTR. My wife would punch me in the neck if I told her I need another 5.

Harley will sell hordes of that sportster. They’ll sell more as soon as they put out the cheaper versions and the “touring” model. The sportster S also puts down very nearly the advertised numbers at the rear wheel. That’s pretty much unheard of. It’s a very fast and fun bike. It is not comfortable. I think it’s actually faster off the line than my pan America. The sportster doesn’t have the high end of the pan, though.

I agree that the Sportster S isn't all that attractive. It isn't very comfortable or practical either. But the engine/transmission are pretty damn good, as are it's standard features.
I wouldn't buy the S. But I am interested in what HD does with the new Sportster platform.

Wrapping up my first year of constant riding, still running around but mainly avoiding the rain at this point. So my first motorcycle is my Scout. I went Indian cause I don't care for bar and shield guy(dick). I think that Sportster S is butt ugly at best. I agree with earlier comments about no real upgrade from the Scout, however the weight of the Chief seems quite beneficial from a highway point of view. 18 more payments and I'll be on a test ride, but I do love my Scout.

Maybe I'll end up with a Chief and a Scout in the garage. Oh Honey let's go get lost somewhere!

I hated mine till I got the Lloydz ECU flash. Cured everything and I fell in love with it. I honestly don't understand why they aren't better sellers. I guess it's an awesome bike with few people looking for something in that vein.

But I already loved the wife's Scout from day one. So when I went to sign paperwork on a '22 base FTR I saw the green and cream Scout we looked for when she bought hers and it was a done deal. And it's as fast as I'll ever need since I no longer do track days. Above 4000 rpm it's a different bike altogether. Riding pack last night with the club, two brothers on 107 Road Glides said I was leaving them behind when we gunned it off the ramp. If you're not a wuss on the throttle even the stock Scout will scream.

I'd love to have an unescorted whack at the Sportster S. Even though I think it's ugly. See what it's got, real world.
