I'm new to street bikes. As far as the old and new Scouts go do you shift one down and how many up? Thanks for answering such a simple question.

Its a six speed so one down, five up.

Sorry if I was misleading, I was talking about the new Scout :)

Ain't no "Law." it's what you can find. Baker makes a N-1-2-3-4-5-6 shifter for many tranny's. LAST thing we need is more "Laws!"

I have a one up, three down on the right side and a one up, three down on the left side...depends on the years and the bikes. I also have a heel clutch, left hand shift.

US government mandated left side shift in 75 Sportster was on right till 74 My first 4 bikes were British. Took some getting used to not shifting on right side. Safety was the reason they wanted all bikes to have the same shift pattern.
