G'day ***** Lovers :)

read in a respected mag an article that suggested removing the leather seat when washing the bike.o_O That sounds a little crazy to me and I was wondering what the manual says if anything and if anybody is actually doing that ?

It also suggested using a seat cover when parking outside.

All these measure are to protect the leather seats etc....

Cheers

On every bike I previously owned (all HDs) I always removed the seat, side covers and bags before a wash. Not because I was afraid to get the seat wet, but to clean the bike better. Not sure if I'll do this on the Roadmaster - seat's harder to get off. Regarding getting the seat wet...it was made to withstand water.

Road many miles in the rain, never hurt the leather.Well,on second thought it was vinyl.

I do have a cover for my leather Corbin I use for overnight.I don't use it when I wash my bike.

When I met the owner of Boss Bags. He said leathers worst enemy is the sun. Unless maybe you live in the Amazon rainforest. My 40 year old Harley spring loaded seat still looks good. And was probably washed 5000 times.

I imagine there would be an issue with our 2014 bikes. I have a 2015 and some say it is "Pleather". I clean it with leather cleaner and don't worry about it. Never took the seat off to wash the bike, just the bags

When I had my Russell daylong installed on my last bike the guy told me " You wouldn't believe how filthy these things are under the seats. Nobody washes 'em." So he appreciated how clean mine was.

I didn't tell him it was cuz the bike was only three months old...

I use a leather conditioner and chamois the saddle when I wash it It is otherwise covered when parked and in excess of two years it is perfect.

I go to a horse store and buy sadle balsam! Cheap and good stuff!
If you do It regularly it saves the lether and keeps it in good condition!
I use it on bags, lether jacket and so on!
But I still use a plastic bag when washing the bike!
