I’ve got a 2020 roadmaster elite with 3000 miles on it. I’m traveling yesterday I had a problem shifting. Very intermittent but when I was in 6th gear and need to downshift it went to 5th but then the spring in the shifter didnt lift the pedal back up so I could go down to 4th. I had to take my toe and lift it slightly so I could downshift to 4th. Likewise with all the gears. No problem up shifting just down. It started working properly again but later on same problem occurred. Any thoughts?

Clutch cable or shift rod not properly aligned, maybe ?

The shifting on my Roadmaster was stiff for around the first 5000 miles. Make sure all the external linkage points are properly lubricated. (Not too much; it'll attract dirt.) At risk of starting another damn oil thread I also changed to synthetic oil which may have helped.

Well, the problem is I had bent the kickstand slightly by strapping it down incorrectly and the bent kickstand was riding against the shift lever. So the solution is to replace the kickstand assembly but, I’ve been toying with converting to a three wheeler anyway so I think this is a sign that I just need to go ahead and do that now. I’m old enough that I know I will need to do it soon anyway so why wait until I have an incident to do it.

It takes awhile to get some conversations, depending which manufacturers, and the best time to convert is during winter anyway. So if you want to ride until then and want to replace the kickstand, I have one from my conversion if you are interested. That’s providing I can find it with all the stuff that had to be removed. Make offer if interested.

Oh, mine has a drilled in it for an attached extender in case you want a completely stock one.

I got an extended kickstand and replaced my chromed original. Same too, you got a couple options if you need one in a pinch.
