Been looking for a jack for 2017 scout sixty. Was interested in the yellow 1500lb craftsman a lot of people suggested but that's not made any longer. It's been a while since people have commented on this and I figured maybe new stuff is out there or experiences with the jacks listed may have been updated. I'd like to have a jack to be able to lift up to do whatever I need, although I'm doing oil changes on the ground cause it's not that bad imo. Pitbull and J&S are more than I currently want to pay at the moment but I do believe you get what you pay for, hence why I haven't gone to Harbor Freight. Anything else with good quality a little cheaper than those?

Any advice is appreciated

Not sure what your budget is but the lift table from harbor freight works well and is a good price for what you get. If you watch you can find them on sale for about $300. I have had one for 6 years and use it on all my bikes including a full dress HD touring bike that weighs close to 1000lbs. You need to also budget for some good straps and a jack to use with the table.

As for "So, I would say that any standard motorcycle jack/lift should work fine, using the engine as a lift point. Looks to be fairly flat under there too." NO. There is ridge running down the middle of the underside and the bottom of the motor slants away and up on either side of it. That's why the directions state "Always secure the motorcycle properly before lifting so it cannot tip or fall when elevated"

This past April I bought the OTC 1545 Motorcycle Lift from Amazon. I had been all set to get the J&S for all the reasons people get that lift. But... the pandemic shut them down, and though they were sort of infamous for long waits, I could not even get a response from them back then. Perhaps things have improved. But I needed a lift then.

I will say without hesitation that this OTC lift is solid. I have had my bike up on it many times for many reasons, and it has never, um, let me (or my bike) down...unless of course I wanted it down. After I saw how well it lifted my 2020 Scout ABS the first time, I have mounted my ride and started the engine while on the lift. It rolls around easily and stores easily under my kids' air hockey table.

Two caveats: 1) it came with no assembly instructions. There is an "exploded" view of the parts, and using that and a bit of imagination, I was able to easily assemble it in about 20 minutes. 2) Some complain that it lowers the bike far too fast. Since I had read that before I got it, I simply got in the habit of holding the handle bar, and easing that release peddle gently - and no problem.

Of course, it being Amazon, some complained of damaged cartons, missing pieces, shoddy workmanship, cold pizza... All I can say is that the lift arrived a day early, delivered by a very attractive female FedEx driver, and the carton was in great shape and all the parts were there. It is heavy and bulky in the carton, but I was able to drag it around to the garage out back (two people would make it a piece of cake).

I've had it now for coming on six months and it has performed flawlessly. And J&S was well north of $600; this one was less than $200 (at the time). I highly recommend the lift.

I recently got Stage 1 2-into-1 Full Exhaust system, and the lift works great with those pipes, too.

I just purchased this on Amazon last night and it's due to arrive on Friday. Thanks for the review.
I hope you find it as sturdy and reliable as I have. Some have suggested a few trial lifts and lowers. One guy had his wife “lift” and “lower” him a few times to break in the mechanism. I didn’t do that. I simply applied the same technique I use with braking every day, bike or car: gentle squeezing. It worked fine.

Enjoy.

Appreciate the tip. As a newbie and having spent hours over the past weeks researching equipment of all types, my mind is going numb. I just ordered this one based on your review here and I think I saw it on Amazon as well. Thank you!

Out of curiosity, how’s that lift working for you? I hope you find it as solid as I have.

I won’t lie. Ordered it. Has remained unopened in my home office awaiting assembly. I have been using a wheel chuck for my projects so far and often cussing that I haven’t put the left together yet. Ha.

:ROFLMAO: Hey, I get that. It does actually go together fairly easily. As I recall I only had to backtrack once. Like housework, it’ll wait for you patiently until you’re ready. Cheers!

I PICKED UP THE ONE FROM AMAZON THAT RUNS ABOUT $100. The Extreme Max is what it was called, but that sounds like a pretty generic name, so it is probably sold under other names. It lifted my Scout Bobber without issue or needing an adapter. It felt pretty solid, but when I replaced the shocks, I tied the handle bars to the ceiling (hoops into the studs) with straps so it wouldn’t tip if I yanked on anything too hard. I didn’t use the straps the other times I have lifted the bike since. I have heard people have problems with these jacks on larger cruisers, but on my scout bobber it worked well. Just make sure you center the lift front o back so it doesn’t tip and make sure the left side near the kick stand doesn’t go on the lift. Just go under the flat part of engine.

Well, my usual luck with such thing continues. I'm a novice at this stuff and every project seems to become more involved. I put it together, taking longer than the average person. As soon as I tried to test it by hitting the pedal to lift, oil is coming out all over the place out of the cylinder at the top.

The worthless Chinese instructions say if it will not lift, close the release valve (no info about how to do that) or check oil (which is all over my garage now). Under troubleshooting for leaking oil, it simply says "worn or damaged gaskets." So I have this new pump (out of the return period) that apparently needs a bunch of work performed to get it to work correctly. Alas.

Sorry to hear , I just bought the blue lift from harbor freight . I can move the bike around on the lift too . You can even sit on the bike while it's on the lift as long as it's centered . You don't need those extra jack extensions for the scout , those work great for the higher mx bikes I have
