Metzeler Tires Separating and Cupping

Another great tire discussion — learning all sorts of stuff. Julies bike (Roadmaster Dark Horse) has the 19-inch front wheel and she is on her second set of Metzler Cruisetecs. The front is cupping badly ~~ and we are religious about tire pressure. This is at about 8.5k mi, which is how long her first set lasted. We are replacing with a set of Bridgestone Exedra’s / back and the American Elite / front. Our dealership (Indian of Denver) said as long as we run radials at both ends, we can mix-and-match mfg’s. They did not tell us that the AE’s are bias ply and the Bridgestones are radial (minus one point on them for either knowledge or integrity). I rode this combo home from the dealership yday (before I found out about the misrepresentation) and the bike rode very smoothly. I will give a full review once I got more miles on. Bridgestones are another tire folks should consider ~~ they are go-to on Goldwings and match our Roadmaster rear tires perfectly (and perform really well in wet conditions).

The rider that travels/tours (500-750 miles per day)and rides 25,000-35,000+ miles per year will get 12,000 to 20,000+from a set of tires. .
Which explains how I got over 16kmi on my first set of E4’s and only 11k mi on the set I just replaced. I was scratching my head on that one…. I was shocked when they told me I was at the wear bars. Thought I had at least another month.

For grins I googled for the expected wear on my new rear Bridgestone ~~ here’s an interesting one. Particularly interesting on post #3 and the next one(s) for front tires.

Thread stopped at request of OP. It has drifted (no pun) from its original purpose and content (metzler tires separating and cupping) (sounds sorta like the title, eh?) If you folks want to talk about other stuff, you can start new threads.
