Key Fob(s)

I purchased a new 2023 Chieftan Limited, and my question is: How many fobs come with a new Indian? I received 1 fob and no keys, and I'm not happy about that. Can anyone say for sure how many fob(s) come with a new 2023 bike?
Thanks, Zack

Standard practice 1 fob comes with the bike, but also normally a key as well. Most of these bikes have a steering lock on the upper triple tree for which a key is required. Hard bags also use that same key.

The bike VCM can accept and store the coding for up to 4 different key fobs so you can add additional if you like and keep a spare handy.

How long have you been riding, what have you been riding, and of course
WHAT is your favorite color?

Funny question, Zack, but I'm a stickler for details, too. You said you purchased a new 2023 Chieftain, but it's 2025. Has the bike been sitting around for 2 years in a showroom somewhere?

If you're saying you purchased it new in 2023, then the dealer should have gone over everything with you, including that it only comes with one Fob and that you should program a PIN as a backup.

Can't wait to see a pic in the New Member section!

This is odd I think it should be 1 Fob 2 keys. I purchased a new 2019 Roadmaster and got 1 round FOB and 2 keys. I actually did not find the 2 keys till years latter thought the dealer kept em, think there may even be a post somewhere on hear where I made that comment, cuz they put them in the little tool bag that I never used. It was just sitting in my saddlebag till I opened it one day and then I was like huuu that's where those were. Just recently traded up to a 2025 Power Plus 112 and again just one Fob this time one key was in the FOB as mentioned above and the other again in my little tool kit. All that to say, look in the tool kit, it may have the key your looking for.

In 5 years I have never wanted for a second fob. It would probably be lost or broken if I had one, anyway.
Maybe you are not responsible enough to own a bike.
Cars come with two keys because of the high percentage of owners with two drivers. Most bikes only have a single driver - no need for a second key.
This is bs answer. Making excuses for cheapening out and screwing customers. Only one person driving car at a time

Snowmobile, ATV, side by side, lawn mower, autos come with 2 keys

Your wife carry a lawn mower key around with her cause she mows too?

This is like making the excuse your wife isn't so bad when on her meds

It's about having a backup. In case it ever gets lost.

If you need a back up , is their a number on the key that can be used or do you have to bring bike in to get it mated?

With Harley you order a trunk, tell them the number and it will arrive matching your key. Lose your key, order a new one with that number

You say some pretty stupid shit most the time.

No need for a 2nd fob if you have you your PIN...you know being a responsible adult and all. Stop thinking you're so much smarter than the world. You clearly aren't otherwise you wouldn't be sitting on this forum talking like you are.

But I guess it's easier to blame someone else for your own incompetency.

EDIT You're also full of shit on getting 2 keys for snowmobiles, side by sides, and ATV. Look around on any of those forums, owners talk about only getting 1 key as well.

The more I think about it. I got two keys and one fob. The one key that stays inside the fob. And the second key ( thag would go into another fob) it had the key code on a keychain with it, it was in the bag with the owners manual and little tool kit.

I also just got one fob with 2 keys. I lost the fob as I forgot it was clipped to my belt loop while I was riding and it wiggled itself loose. Wish I had a second fob for sure, but it was my own fault I am stuck using my code. With car's it is exactly as JayRed1 on the reason why. Most people don't share their bike- most car drivers do. Someone's partner or kids usually drives it when it's available whereas I only have 1 person I would consider letting ride my bike and they live in England and won't be by. Car drivers tend to keep their fobs in their purse or work bag and just start the car wirelessly. If someone walks out of the house with that key in their bag everyone else is stranded. We're comparing apples to flippin sirloin steaks in terms of how the markets work. It's got nothing to do with being cheap, it's just for every person who thinks it's a scam they are not getting 2 fobs there are 10 who have absolutely no need to do it.

Berserker you are opinionated though. Must be the life of the party if you aren't around people who don't agree with you on everything.

A couple weeks ago,I went out to my garage to fire the bike up and head out for a little ride. But, when I hit the starter button, NOTHING happened. WTF??? So, after farting around with it for a half hour or so looking for the problem, dawn "FINALLY" broke on marble head. I had forgotten the FOB in the house. So I went back into the house, grabbed it,went back out to my garage and she fired right up. What a putz!!:rolleyes: DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newest thing I have is lawn mower two keys, 2024. Sxs 2019 2 and sled 2015 2. If they cheaper out then I will speak out against them also

I am not sure why you are happy to get less. Why you feel you cannot say something.

It was the practice my whole life to get 2 keys for everything

Because I don't feel like I got ripped off because I didn't get an extra key that I don't need. Especially since the key is only good for locking your bags or steering. Because since I'm the only one that rides my bike, I don't need an extra fob either. And if I have ever lost it, which I have, I know my PIN because that is the backup that Indian provides.

Yes. You get a little key card number on your second key. You give that number. They get you a new key.

Your previous owner clearly didn’t give you yours.

two fobs aren’t needed. Unless you’re sharing a bike with someone else. But I’m sure you will argue that too.

I don't share my truck, snowmobile, ATV, sxs or lawn mower and I want two keys, and have them

It is all about being prepared . I just don't know why men are anti being prepared. Sad reflection of the times. Go ask your father if he thinks you should have two fobs/keys

Entering a pin in pia.

But again how do you get another fob?

Is the number for the key inscribed on key? That is how Harley does it. I don't have my bike with me.

I am more concerned about fob than key. But they do live together

Thank you for proving my point. Other people think you should get 2 key/fobs. But you want to argue it is wrong for Indian. You are just blindly loyal
The PIN is your backup. So again, you're given yet another solution to your problem but still want to b!tch and blame the manufacturer because you can't comprehend simple solutions.
As I wrote I changed my pin before I left dealer. But using pin is not a good day to day solution. It is not convenient. I understand you are so blindly loyal you can not admit that

So how did you get another fob after you lost yours?

And don't you feel dumb arguing you should not have a second fob, when you admit you lost yours?

Up until few years ago, every motor vehicle came with 2.

My snowblower has 2

I can't fathom why we are arguing this, other than you want to argue and you have blind loyalty. Like the old time Harley riders you loathe. This last part makes me laugh.

I own a HD as well So I guess that makes me blindly loyal...ok.

Actually, I feel like a frikkin genius when arguing with you! which doesn't say much. My fob fell off my clutch lever where I had it hanging when I was doing some work to it, forgot it was there when I rode off for a test ride. Stopped at a gas station, bike didn't recognize a key fob soooo, I USED MY PIN🤯.. rode back the same way I came and found it on my street.

Do I think Indian could do some things differently? from being on this forum and reading others issues they may be having and getting no resolution from Indian/Polaris.. yes.

But the problems that you seem to have that are inconvenient to you or tend to have you take over everyone else's thread with your b!tching are completely stupid and menial. And the fact that you don't see that, even with several others telling you the same, tells me theres something seriously wrong with how you comprehend and communicate.

After you lost your fob,how did you get a new one???????

I don't believe you rode using pin forever more. Unless you are one of those guys who says he never masturbated. Which is what you are doing here

#45 ·
you go to your dealer and buy one and they program it to your bike. Just how they would do it for your vehicle

and yes. I primarily use my code as I don’t want to carry my keys when riding.

so argue more and get yet another thread locked. Or just stop since you were given once again another solution to your complaint.

How is it NOT easier to use the PIN than a fob or key?! You don’t have to get a fob or key out of a drawer, off the dresser, out of a locked safe with all your other valuables or wherever one likes to keep it or even have to remember where you put it after the last ride. All you have to do is input 4 digits on the dash. After all, they are in your brain all the time.
Oh wait. That’s right, the one bitching incessantly about this has no brain.

golly, some of you guys are pretty free calling each other names and insulting each other. interesting moderation here. most forums would have issued a few timeouts by now.

in reading my owners manual I see that should I lose my only fob, or it break, the equipment to be replaced, and the cost, would be considerable. speaking only for myself, that’s enough for me to want a second. In fact, I’ll be buying same.

does that mean I won’t use the pin? Of course not.
