I would NOT recommend the K&P oil filter. This filter has an O-Ring that tears and causes a slow oil leak..This is the second O-Ring that has torn and caused a leak on my 2016 Vintage.....If you are running one of these reusable filters, either check that O-Ring constantly or just go back to a regular oil filter. A lot of times, Better is the Enemy of Good.

I've been using Wix filters on all my bikes, four wheelers, and the fleet I used to maintain and NEVER had any problems leaking or else wise.I don't happen to have the part number handy right now but will be glad to get it for ya if you're interested.

How many uses did you get from the O-ring before it leaked? Do you rotate the O-ring every oil change? Do you remove the O-ring before you clean the filter? If not, is it possible the cleaning solvent may have damaged the O-ring? Do you tighten the oil filter to specs or crank it down?

I’m using a K&P filter, it’s new only 2 oil changes on it. No issues. How many oil changes before you had an issue?

I ran that filter on my Subaru. Never had an issue with it. Worked great. Still have the original gasket and replacement it came with. Looks like over tightness to my but just by what you have shown.
Man, I would have paid shipping to get your filter

I have been using and selling those filters for over 20 years. The pics show me over tightening, lack of lube on the o-ring and/or the need to replace the o-ring more often. The filter on my Challenger is on it's SIXTH bike and has over 250,000 miles on it. I have never had an o-ring shear like in the pic so my belief is the cause is what I have mentioned above.

I'm getting ready to do my 3rd oil change with my K&P with the same o-ring. No issues.

The pics show AFTER the filter had been removed by the dealer mechanic.

1st leak - about a month after I purchased the bike...oil changed by dealer
2nd incident - After dealer had changed the oil from the first leak.

I ride with the mechanic at the dealership...awesome Mechanic. Everything was done to spec.
Not trying to start anything, but this what has happened to me...twice now.

The common denominator here is the filter/o ring and the mechanic/dealership. These filters are CNC machined which minimizes defects in the end product, but does not eliminate defects. Was the groove machined properly with no burrs? Was the groove lubed before the o ring inserted, VERY IMPORTANT!

Me having more experience with these filters than ANYONE I can say for sure the o ring SCREAMS the above mentioned along with over tightening. You threw away a filter blaming it and the o ring on the www and I betcha you didn't even contact K&P.

I use the K&P S1 filter on my 2016 Indian Chieftain, just changed the oil on it last weekend, not a fan of cleaning the filter and then drying out the solvent, but not having issues with the X-ring filter seal, my K&P shipped with an extra filter seal. I went with this filter primarily because it has a much higher flow rate.
