Indian Scout Reliability?

The new Scout Rogue has got my attention. In terms of reliability and longevity, how does the Indian Scout bikes compare to the big 4 from Japan. Those being Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, and Yamaha?

From your other post about the Chief Reliability asking the same question:

........Assuming they will be as reliable as other Indians made in recent times.......
I am not sure where you are heading with your posts but it is obvious you already know the answer. Do a bit of digging on the forum using the search function. The Scout reincarnation has been in existence since 2015 and it is already a well-proven and reliable platform. The Rogue is simply a cosmetic variation.

I left a follow up post to the other post about the Chief before seeing this response to my OP.

I will use the search function.

The Rogue reminds me of the Victory Octane, which obviously wasn't around long. I liked the Octane and was disappointed when they dropped it along with the other Victorys.

I have a 2017 Indian scout. Going strong at 67,000 miles with only a few minor issues.

Starter recall
Brakes, oil, tires (of course)
Clutch cable at 43,000
Battery after 5 years
I just changed the clutch at 66,000 because it was slipping in 6th sometimes

I ride her hard as well. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely buy a Scout.
Did you do the clutch yourself? Anticipating the eventual clutch job I have been looking for the clutch plate bolts torque specs. I have heard they are easy to strip.

more reliable than a victory, no wonder they went bankrupt.
more reliable than moto morini, benelli, mv agusta.
more reliable than a plastic bottle of water.
more reliable than a failing honda.
more reliable than a stinky green broken kawasaki.
more reliable than a yamaha that pings out of the engine like a piano handled by an incompetent child.

buy a car, a merc of the 90s, the most reliable cars, which by default should be more reliable than any bike.

your life will change
you'll be looking for specialised workshops...

any indian is reliably badly serviced in the guatemalan mountains.
why? well they ride small-cc suzukis there.

hmmm, maybe focus on a suzuki.

The real and honest and most fruitful way to choose a bike is?
1.) what excellent service places do I have at hand? nearby? any bike needs the best service to serve you best - any!
2.) check with them how the brands support them on critical and complex warranty failures. Exotic brands won't, they don't have the muscle to support the complete dealer network. Established mass brands have, either very good support, of a highly ignorant rejection policy in place nobody will tell you about, but you can see it sometimes in the eyes of a dealer... not his sales person, the owner and the workshop master. Then they need to be set to support your simple and your complex demands on their own at their cost, or yours or both. Figure that out.
3.) from the remaining positively assessed brands that survive - choose the bike you love most to ride.
4.) Or, take the risk and get the bike you love most and f...ing ride it and maintain it. Even the most lemonatic crapshit bike, last ones built in the 90s, or 10 years ago by chinese will survive 100k miles easily if well cared.

cheers,
good luck.
Carlos.
I own examples of the worst and the best bikes of the market, new, not new anymore, classic and antiques from between the 50s and the 2018s. There's no difference with 2022 bikes in reliability to 2018. The japan reliability is a myth, a proven one, as was proven the opposite, too. I made both experiences multiple times.

I think overall the scout lineup is pretty reliable. Not that things can’t happen like when the cam carrier brackets broke loose in mine costing me almost 4K in repairs despite having less than 25K miles on it. I think the biggest downside maintenance/repair wise with the scouts is that you‘re more dependent on dealerships as other shops either don‘t have the experience with Indians or access to the necessary parts.
You can always consider extended warranties but that’s a crap shoot as well. Just don’t expect Polaris or Indian to do anything for you if it’s not covered by warranty…..they gave a crap less about what happened to mine.
