INDIAN MOTORCYCLE WELCOMES MIKE WOLFE OF “AMERICAN PICKERS”

MEDINA, MN (July 11th, 2012) - Indian Motorcycle is proud to team up with Mike Wolfe, creator and host of “American Pickers” on HISTORY. Wolfe has been picking, or finding antique gems in unique places, since the age of 5; and he has a passion for Indian Motorcycles. His self-proclaimed “best pick ever”, a barn full of classic Indians, fueled his desire to pursue the unique profession as a career.

“A few years back I was reading a motorcycle magazine. There was a classified ad that read ‘Buy-Sell-Trade Indian Motorcycles.’ I called the number. The older man who answered the phone said there were still a few rusty bikes out in the barn. I drove 800 miles, arriving in Pennsylvania the very next morning. When the old farmer opened the barn door I knew I had hit the mother lode: 10 vintage Indian bikes and two more barns full of spare parts. The mega pick of a lifetime,” recalls Wolfe.

Wolfe has turned his love for products that made America great into ”American Pickers”, a top cable television series, educating audiences about Indian in a refreshing and new way. “With Mike’s genuine passion for riding and knowledge of the brand, we feel he is the perfect brand champion to serve as the link between the incredible heritage of Indian Motorcycle and the exciting road ahead for Indian in the future”, says Darren Bassel, director of marketing at Indian Motorcycle. Mike Wolfe agrees, saying “I'm an Indian rider, so I love the fact that I get to work with such an iconic American brand' said Wolfe. 'These bikes are known for their timeless innovation, design and quality. It's going to be a hell of a ride.”

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE AND MIKE WOLFE AT STURGIS

Indian Motorcycle and Victory Motorcycles are staking a new claim this year Aug. 4-11 in Sturgis with an exciting all-new bigger and better display. The new set-up at 3rd and Lazelle will debut the Indian Experience Truck, where Sturgis-goers can learn about the incredible heritage of the brand, and how Indian helped make motorcycling what it is today. Indian will also showcase all that is new for 2013. The company display will feature an entertainment stage, which will be the center for music and activity in Sturgis.

Wolfe will visit the Indian Motorcycle Experience at 3rd and Lazelle on Friday, Aug. 10th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm to discuss how Indian helped him become America’s #1 picker. Fans can get an autograph or a picture, or even bring a vintage Indian bike or memorabilia for a chance to spend some quality time with Mike and swap stories about Indian.

Notice that was for a 2011 auction. It might be interesting to see what that stuff sold for but I don't see any type of register online showing any such details.

Love American Pickers I always drool when they find rusty gold in old barns and in basements across America.

Mike Wolfe knows the bikes inside and out he can spot carbs in a pile and know the year of the Indian they belong to.

Polaris has another great spokesman to compliment Gunny voiceing Victory

I like Americian Picker but I always hope the sucker, ie the person they are picking, gets a good deal. Best episodes are when they tell the unknowing seller what their stuff is really worth

I enjoy the show. They could probably afford to be a little more generous, especially now, and some of the pickees are simply better negotiators than others. That said, they never seem to be blatantly unfair in their pricing, they even went back to spilt the profis with someone who had sold them old carnival posters after discovering they were far more valuable than originally thought. They seem to try to get the items for somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of what they plan to sell them for, but you have to remember they assume all transportation costs, cost of displaying the item, business costs and time and work invested in finding the items and finding a buyer for the items. Plus "what they plan to sell it for" and what they actually get might be two different things.
