Can anyone explain why IM doesn’t use floating rotors on models (FTR and Challenger) with radial disc brakes?

They are floating. Look close. The holes are oval, so the rotors can expand, and bolts are “too long” with spring washers. Pretty neat actually, you’re saving weight on the centers.

Same as on many BMW’s (in fact, the rotors of the FTR and the K1200 are the same).

Max Kool, when you say the bolts are “too long” I‘m not visualizing what you mean. I get the oval holes allow the rotor to float...and I guess using spring washers allows for movement too.

Meaning they arent completely sandwiching the washer when they are fully tightened. There is room for lateral play.

I’ve seen a few people comment about the lack of floating rotors on here.

They are just a different design not everyone is used to seeing.
