I'm bringing this up in the RM forum specifically for RM / Chieftain feedback because the fairing and windshield are key to the discussion. Also key to the discussion is my wife typically rides with me and my dad joins us on his RM with his wife.

When I bought my RM a few months ago I also purchased the SENA SPH10H-FM headset for 1/2 helmet that was recommended by Indian. Unfortunately, that configuration has issues and I need to move on from it. The headset uses Bluetooth 3 (older version). I cannot hear anyone when going faster than 60mph. The mic picks up lots of ambient noise.

I've been researching open face helmets and comms systems like the SENA 20S and Scala Rider PackTalk (from Cardo).

Please share your experiences and recommendations of open face helmets on the RM. I would also appreciate hearing about your experiences with either the SENA 20s or Scala Rider PackTalk comms systems. I'm really impressed with what I've seen of the PackTalk.

I ride two up a lot it is why I got the roadmaster, that and back issues. Any way, we just talk, no need for com stuff, the bike protects from the wind well enough and we both wear open face, so when we need to say something we just do no electronics needed.

I can't help cause I went with the antique CB that no one here seems to want. They want the useless Bluetooth. But I have no trouble at all hearing my wife even a mile behind me on funeral escorts. And some of them are at 60mph. That's the max I'll lead escort at with 2 big 3X5 flags.

It's a J&M. It does require a hard wire to helmet just like the Harley set up most of us are familiar with. Everything Bluetooth still works EXCEPT volume on the radio and CB but that is easily controlled with the volume button(s) on the CB unit.

Here's a case where Indian could have easily worked with J&M to have a hidden unit in the fairing that totally worked with the radio. Instead they took the easier route and limited function and usability all around. But I like what I have.

I think I'm the second one to do it and might even be just two of us. Don't know if ANYONE else has done it but it works great.

My riding buddy and I both had the Sena 10S and had the same wind noise. Replaced with the 20S and its night and day better. No wind noise or static. i ride a Chief with windshield and an open face helmet. it will be even better on an RM with fairing.

Oh, hallelujah, someone that does not consider me to be Neanderthal for wanting a CB radio. Do you have any documentation on what you did? I so want to plumb my CB to my roadmaster because it just makes a heap more sense than Bluetooth - especially when you have interbike comms with people that have CB's (such as Harleys). I would appreciate any information that you can provide in relation to this......... (that is, if you don't mind)

my partner and I are currently using shoei helmets with the Cardo Bluetooth SHO-1 (they are for full face helmets). I am having a lot of problems with them.
Firstly, when I have them paired between the two helmets whilst pillion, I get a significant echo that makes it really difficult to have a conversation - someone told me to close my visor (great advice......... not) to get rid of the echo. Bike to bike the echo goes away.
On the RM I can only pair one headset to the bike and then have to pair the other helmet to my helmet - have not been able to get this to work yet.
When I pair it to the bike, it tends to drop out.
Anyway, the upshot is, if I pair my helmet with my phone I have my music, my phone, my gps (google maps), a radio and can talk to my partner - and it's not that difficult.
If I connect it to the bike it does not seem to work properly and quite frankly it sucks big time - to say that I am not a fan of Bluetooth would be an understatement.

Had Sena10 with Bell Mag10. Sucked.. No volume, distortion, wind noise

Went with Sena20 and switched to modular helmet. Not a fair comparison, but love the new setup. Haven't tried with my open face yet, but volume is much better with more clarity. Pairs great with iPhone6 and RM

Check out the UClear units no boom microphone and is Bluetooth compatible. I use it on a modular but ost of the time have the chin bar up. It can be paired with other brands and although I haven't tried it, they have models for 1/2 helmets as well. Only negative, buttons are a little cumbersome.

Me and the missus have the Sena 20's ( she rides her own bike). We are both modular ( HJC ) and we've been all over the USA and parts of Canada (20k mikes this summer). We switch off between xmissions to minimize wind noise ( i.e. either one of us just spools up when we want to talk, using the helmet button - very minor hassle but WAY better than having a hot mic). Works great and also saves battery. We did our BB gold (1700 mikes in 36 hrs) and she lost her power ( finally) at about 23hrs. We get about 1/4 mi range and have em synced up to our iPhones. Also works as navi. She likes running hers thru her helmet for audio and I like to run it through my speakers (switch to helmet in high wind conditions).

I've sent you a link to a conversation I had with the person on this site that did all the work to figure out how to get a CB to work on an Indian. TnNytehawk is the person to contact if you have any technical questions as I just handed my dealer the same link information in a full screenshot and they followed his instructions. Let me know if it works and if not I'll capture another full screen shot and post it here. But TnNytehawk is the one that deserves all the credit. Not I. I just benefited from all his work. He was going to put out a "How To" thread but life got in the way from what I understand.

Injuncowboy, could you send that link as well? Thanks

Well since I don't even know if it works I'll just put it here and if it does then anyone else can go there too.

CB conversation

So if it doesn't work because I have some privacy thing too restrictive you or anyone can let me know and I can capture a screen shot of the whole thread and make that available.

Well if someone could tell me how to add people to a conversation I'd do that. In the mean time I'll load a big screen shot which I've started. Will be 2 pages or 2 pictures though. Hang tight.

EDIT: Okay. See if you can view this. It is a screen shot of each page of the conversation so you'll have to blow it up to see if but it should still be readable. I had hoped by now that the guy that did all the work would have put together the "How To" thread but this will have to do unless a moderator or admin wants to open the conversation for everyone or tell me how or make the conversation a thread of it's own and take it completely out of my private conversations. It really does have absolutely everything required to make a J&M CB work on a Roadmaster or other recent Indian.

EDIT #2: Never mind. That didn't work either.

Okay. Here's my last attempt. Had to buy some software so I could convert the jpeg to a pdf and then find a host for the pdf but I think I have it now. So anyone that really wants this can download the pdf that contains everything to their computer and size it anyway they need to view it. It's been quite the exercise and learning experience.

PDF Host

PDF Host

So there went my money to become a support member here buy having to purchase software for that final conversion but I hope it works and all can benefit. If it doesn't, I'm all out of ideas.
Let me know at least.

I've been told the first one doesn't work in some cases so here it is broken in half and merged back together as a PDF.

PDF Host

Somehow someway one of these has to work but I know the file is massive which maybe why it doesn't work and if this doesn't, I'm out of ideas.

What open face helmet are you using? I'm leaning towards the Cardo Pack talk but I'm still researching open face helmets.
