Have you ever had a helmet stolen off your bike?

A friend recommended I remove the trunk from my RM to drop the weight and improve slow speed and off-the-kickstand mobility as we discussed my back issues. It makes sense since I ride solo, and I only use the trunk these days to store my helmet during restroom stops. I've never left my helmet on my bikes because of possible theft but my friend and my dealer told me that they have never heard of a helmet being stolen from a bike at rallies, service stations, etc.
Do any of you leave your helmets? Thanks.

I'm in SoCal, so if something is not locked then there's a good chance it will get stolen. I always take my $800 helmet with me. Off topic: I rode to a diner the other day for lunch and parked near the front door. I packed up my gear and went inside. I walked back to my bike and the key was sitting on my seat....ooops.
lol, I've done that quite a few times. Forget my keys in the ignition. But fortunately always there upon my return.

Decades of many, many bike events - never locked a helmet and never had one go missing. That being said, If at a motel or restaurant, etc., I either bring it in with me or use a pistol lock. Yes those cables can probably be cut with a Leatherman, or the straps can be cut by a moron who would try do do whatever with a strapless helmet .. but, as has been posted, we not live in different times.

I have a nice Nexx helmet that costs about $400 in the US. But I couldn't find my size here so I found it from a dealer in Spain, and it was only about $325. Been a great helmet for me. I usually slide it over my rider backrest and thread the strap through the D-rings and pull it tight. Then if a thief tries to grab it and run he will be surprised when either it won't come loose easily or he gets the whole backrest too. I guess I could start locking it on the bike. I do have the gun lock I used for that in the past.

I would conjecture that we have less worry about a helmet getting stolen at a rally than we would out and about in the general public.

It hasn't happened to me yet! They better hope not to get caught. I might have to put a tag in my helmet to track it down.

I would never leave it out in the open on a bike. Everyone is different.
