I have a 2018 Springfield with the stock handlebars rolled forward. It was a fantastic change while I was still dealing with the stock seat. Now that I have upgraded to the extended reach Rogue seat from Indian, and I'm also thinking about a seat pad for longer distance, I need more rise out of the handlebars. I know I will have to do some swapping of the wiring and cables, so no worries there. My problem is the options.
Indian offers a beach bar and a 16 inch ape hanger set, neither of which are good for me. I've seen that Carlini makes handlebars that fit Indians but they are more of a show-type of option. What I want is to move my hands in front of my chest but below my collar bone. From what I can tell, handlebars with a 10-12 inch rise should do the trick. Has anyone seen handlebars that match this description?
My end-goal is to increase comfort while maintaining the level of control I have with the motorcycle.
Dean speed. I just emailed him the other day, he said he can make 12-14 inch apes for my 2017 darkhorse. I'm sure he can do for the Springfield too Shoot him an email from the website, he also said with the 12inch, stock cables will work. Deanspeed.com.
I am looking at the widowmaker 1.25, he didnt quote a different price, so I assume it's the advertised. I would imagine the only thing different is where he drills the holes for the internal wiring
Cool. I know he does the Chief Lowballs 1 1/4" bars that fit the Chiefs, Dk Horse and Springys. I have some on order. Widows are freakin cool. Not sure about the drilled holes for internal wiring but I think he uses a company that laser cuts an oval hole in the base of the bars and up at the controls. Awesome quality from Mykah. I have just become a dealer for his product way down here in New Zealand, and have quite a bit of stuff coming soon.
Right on man. He seems like a good guy, super fast on email replies. Pretty set on the widows, just need to pull the trigger. I dont want my arms in the clouds, just something with a bit more style than the stockers.
These are the lowballs 14” from Dean Speed. Had to get a new clutch cable but the brake was fine. Clutch cable was easy to install. He did not originally drill the holes for me and he had the smaller grip part of the bar measured incorrectly. I sent him the bars back along with the OEM ones and he’s since used that as the template. He did drill the holes but I had to open them up a little with a metal file.
The install is a pain in the arse but oh so worth it in the end! Mykah is a good dude and is quick to reply. If he keeps this up he’s going to be the talk of the Indian town in no time.

How tall are you? have you sat on a Springfield with the Indian 16's on it? I'm 5'6" and honestly the 16's put my arms straight out so someone taller would have the grips below shoulder for sure. I had 16" Carlini's on my '14 WideGlide and I was damn near standing up to ride my bike. So different bikes yield different results with the same sized bars. I feel ya on the not wanting to give up control for style though. Been there done that, and you will lose control the higher you go. Good luck finding a good fit for you
I'm pretty tall at 6'1" and i have sat on a bike with the 16s installed. They felt great but 16" is too much rise for me. When i had my stock seat, the stock bars were perfect as they were rolled up. Now that i have a seat that moves me up a bit, they are a bit short. I had mini apes installed on my Dyna and they were perfect. Right were i want my handle bars to be now. The stock bars, while rolled forward, can only offer around 8" of rise.
My only problem is that when you get a set of bars with 12" inch rise, hopefully from Dean Speed, all set up on your Springfield, then, I am going to want a set too. I must resist, I must resist, hahaha
I'm hoping the straight apes that he offers will be aesthetically compatible to my bike. There aren't any hard corners or straight lines anywhere on my Springfield so I'm hoping that those bars work for me, appearance-wise.
That is unusual. He will contact you. Believe me, and others will agree, his customer service is normally impeccable. I have just messaged him and he is onto it. He has been extremely busy fabricating new 2 into 1 pipes lately as well as his other orders. The short wait will be worth it, you'll see when you get your bars.
I've got the Indian 16" bars on mine and am really happy with them. Although 14's might be a bit better for the longer rides. This bike still loves to lean into the corners so that's not an issue at all with the taller bars. I'll see how the next few trips go, maybe I'll give Deen Speed a call for some 14's.
I'm only 5'10" and the Indian 16's were pretty good for me. I bet these 14's would've been perfect but alas I traded the Springfield DH in for a Challenger. No regrets, although the Springfield was definitely the prettier bike.
The height isn’t what really bothered me, they didn’t have any pullback. And when I rolled them back trying to get comfortable I thought they looked silly and the controls weren’t lined up.
