Gear shift is pretty hard

Hello Scout Experts,

I am finding my Scout Bobber gear shift pretty hard, like almost a hard tap for down shift toe crack up for up shift. I am coming from Yamaha vStar 250 where the gears dropped like a butter, sometimes I didn't even know i had shifted 2 up or 2 down.

Is this normal or your bikes shift pretty smooth. Anything I need to check, please advise.

It's a 2019 Scout Bobber, 2200 miles (Break in oil change and everything done at 500 miles)

Thanks in advance.

Yes, compared to Yamaha, the gear box/shift is clunky. I say that from my experience of switching from Yamaha to Indian Bobber. Anyway, I traded my Bobber for Chieftain. The gear shift is much smoother.

Had a Honda and Suzuki before my 19 bobber The bobber shifts are louder and clunkier than the others. This spring I put Ams oil after reading several posts on here and that has helped smooth it out

Thank you I will try that too. I understand that Indian would be more tougher than Japanese bikes. Any link on AMS oil please.

Maybe your shifter is not in the right location. The shaft coming out of the transmission that has a spline on it and your shift pedal connects to has 2 tiny dots on them. They are meant to be lined up perfectly for the best shifting. Take a look. They are hard to see. Just a sugestion. If they are out it is easy to line them up and then set the shifter pedal where you want it with the long rod that connects the two. If that is not the problem look for a quart of Motorkote. Put about 7 ounces in the oil filler and after about 50 miles the transmission will shift very easy. I put some in 3000klm ago and it works fine. No clutch slipping or motor affects. They recommend 2 oz per quart. Worked for me.

I'll have to have a look at this as well. I am finding that sometimes I think it went to 1st but hung in N or it catches N on the way up. Sometimes its excessive effort instead of a light press. Sometimes I have to roll along until I can get it to shift, 2nd up good, 6 to 2nd good, just that 1-2 and 2-1.

It's the clutch cable . Mine did the same thing . I had the dealer pick it up and they checked it . The report said clutch cable tightened . It worked perfect up until I drove another 100 miles (300miles as of now) . I adjusted the cable myself and ran perfect . It's easy to do . Here is the adjuster.

Your next thing to check on the scout are all the bolts on both sides of the engine covers . I check them after every ride . I usually ride all day , by the time it cools down I check and tighten them . I been finding they loosening up .
