Anyone mount a gas can to the scout? I got an MSR bottle but I was curious if anyone’s tried one of these:

Yes.I have one, and it fits in my Viking saddlebag. I carried it out west last September just in case. I now have it so I can mount it on my six pack rack behind the passenger backrest, I cut a piece of LG HiMacs. Countertop that I had laying around, an clamped it to the rack. Then I drilled it for the bolt pattern for the gas can mount. I covered the HiMacs with a piece of foam pad, glued on with spray adhesive, so it would cushion the can. It’s very solid, and when I get to go on my next trip, that’s where it will be mounted.

I have an MSR Can I keep in my Viking Solo Bag. The Viking Solo Bag is on sale for $79.99, it has a strong metal frame that bolts into the mount bolts for the rear fender and the bag can be removed from the frame. So up to you if you think its worth it, but you can the solo bag and pull off the bag and rig up a mount on the frame for the bag.

I’ll see if later today I can get a couple photos of the can on the mount.
As far as a look a like contest, all I have to say, is my mom didn’t raise stupid kids, just ugly ones 😂

Here is a tip, if you put spare gas in your saddlebag put the container in a strong thick plastic bag and seal it. On my trip out west I put 2 one gallon Reda plastic gas cans in the sidecar trunk with backpacks containing our clothes.
Even with the gas can tops tightly closed, fumes got out and our clothes smelled like gas. A hotel clerk gave me thin plastic bags that stopped the smell but by the end of the trip the bouncing around wore holes in the plastic. Luckily I never had to use the spare gas but once the gas gauge got lower than 1/2 full I started looking for gas. The Springfield with the sidecar was only getting approx 31 MPG.

Here is the can, and how I mounted it on the rear rack with a piece of LG HiMacs countertop from a sink cutout.
