Indianapolis, IN - A man was seriously injured this morning in a crash along I-465 just south of I-69. At 8:29 a.m. emergency crews were called to the 37.2 mile marker southbound for report of a motorcycle crash. When crews arrived the located the rider of the motorcycle lying on the road with severe injuries. The rider was identified as Philip "Andy" Byers, a 24 year Indiana State Police Veteran and current Detective at the Pendleton District. Byers was off duty at the time of the crash and riding his personally owned motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet however suffered critical injuries in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Preliminary investigation has determined the motorcycle was southbound in the center lane coming upon slower traffic, a vehicle was beside the motorcycle in an adjacent lane. The car collided with the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to strike the rear end of the semi trailer. At this point none of the drivers involved are suspected of being intoxicated. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577

There is no further information to release at this time.

Please see the link below if you would like to assist a fellow Indian rider and a fine public servant. Andy was on his way to a group ride at the time of the accident.
If you can’t contribute, prayers for Andy’s recovery are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
