So a buddy has a Chief Bobber dark horse, loaded cams, intake, exhaust, comfort seat, lights, bags, all indian accessories. I can get it for a low price compared to new. It has low miles. I was wondering if I can replace the rear shocks and put the bike into a sport Chief or better height. I don’t want a bobber. The bike is well equipped but. I am also not a big fan of the fat front tire. I might be able to live with it though. It does not have to become a sport Chief. I like the classic look of the bike. I do want better cornering clearance.

I put the rear Fox shocks for the Sport Chief on my Super Chief Ltd. Made a huge improvement in the ride quality and I highly recommend them. I think you'll only gain about a degree of cornering clearance with them. There's a guy who posted on here quite a while ago that did a lift front and rear on his Chief. Something like two or three inches and he can corner with the best of them. I'm sure it's still in this forum somewhere in the archives.

I rode the limited and I liked the ride. My concerns at the time were the single disk up front, the ballon tires, and I wanted less chrome. Not that the limited is unappealing, I think it is a nice bike. I just wanted a different look. I found a Chief bobber dark horse loaded used with low miles. The owner threw the catalog at it and then promptly died. So the bike is well equipped and the price is great. The sport Chief is more my thing performance wise but his bobber looks great. Plus the price is fantastic. Decisions?

Get the Bobber if it's such a good price. I've been working on my Bobber recently and love the thing. Lawless Garage makes a fork extension kit that gives you 1 inch more lift on the front, and with the sport chief shocks most people seem pretty happy for the rear.

Welp.

I'm very sorry to hear you're going to have a faster bike. Hope you get your bike back fast though.

I did done did it! Indian Chief dark horse bobber. Bags, comfort seat, lights, mid controls, fender rack, different bars, cams, intake, and exhaust. Could not say no. 16500 used with 209 miles! Last owner tricked it out then passed away. I will honor his build with fun miles!

Great looking bike so congrats on a buy which will bring you lots of joy. It’s a nice gesture that you’ll do many miles to honor the former owner.

Didn’t you get the forward controls (pegs) along with the bike? I’m 6’3 and have an extended reach seat in combination with the forward controls and my stance is as good as it gets. In comparison with my Warrior XV1700 it’s as night and day.

Not that I wanna discourage you to buy the floorboards but if you have the gear you might want to try it out first?

Ride safe!

The only thing that might be negative about the Indian floorboard kit is that the brake peg arm and the shifter arm are both polished or chrome (shiny). Some guys want everything to be black. I'm old school and like chrome so it's not an issue to me.

Looking real good man! Welcome to the club.

My bike came with forward controls and I just put the Kurayakyn floor boards on. Game changer for comfort.

After seeing yours i've decided to get my mounting brackets for my Memphis Shades windshields ordered up so I can put it on the Bobber. That looks great!
