Few days ago while on a ride, the check engine light came on but bike performed normally. After a while it turned off, and after that it would come on and off till the end of the ride. No change in sound or drivability.

The next day, the light was off but after a couple min ride came on again, and the bike hesitated a little, seemed to lose power, sounded harsh, and the light started blinking. Powered off the bike and restarted, light was on solid, and as driving back home it did the same thing and light started blinking. When I got home, I checked the code and it was 65590 7 (unidentified cylinder misfire). Last night reinstalled the Stock Indian tune, and cleared the codes through PVCX. The bike started and idled fine with no engine light, so I reinstalled the FM tune (which has been on my bike for a year so this has nothing to do with the FM tune), and it also sounded and idled ok.

I just took it for a ride hoping the problem has "vanished", and after a couple of minutes the bike sound changed, and it hesitated for a second and seemed to loose torque for a few seconds, check engine light started flashing. I eased off the throttle and turned around, bike went back to normal drivability but engine light still on. After another couple of minutes it did the same thing for a couple of seconds and back to normal. I just checked the code and it's 520333 FMI 2, which is Oxygen Sensor (pre) (Bank 2), FMI 2: Signal Fault.

Any ideas? Anything I can try on my own or is a dealer visit in my future?

I appreciate any input.

Thank you.

Get a couple O2 sensors in reserve in case you have one failing. How clean is your exhaust? If she has been running rich, I believe that can mess with the sensor after carbon starts building up. They are easy to r&r.

Don't know how clean the exhaust is. I looked but can't really tell. Is it worth replacing the O2 sensor? And which one, front or rear?
Also does it have to be OEM or is there an alternative? Can it be replaced without removing the headers?

Why would the engine throw the cylinder misfire code the day before? Are they related? or is something bigger the problem?

Please excuse my ignorance.

Your signal fault is on the rear bank... #2. Sensors can be unclipped and unscrewed without taking anything else apart (besides the side cover [I think], and sometimes the seat, to get to the electrical connection).
A cylinder misfire can be triggered by a lot of different conditions, hard to narrow down and the cause can be intermittent or elusive. Things like fuel and spark plugs, plug wires, coil connections, even wiring connections at sensors and at computers might cause occasional mis-fire conditions.
The dealers can tell a considerable amount about the operational conditions and codes with use of Digital Wrench. If you are a DIY kind of person, then swapping O2 sensor could be an easy and inexpensive shot at correcting or at least help in diagnosing your problem. Logging with your PVCX might also offer some insight into what your engine is doing when it goes into the error condition.

So I reflashed the ECU with the stock Indian thinking maybe if it's less rich it'll do something (although the FM tune has been there for nearly a year so that doesn't make much sense). Rode it, after 15 min it threw the same 2 codes as above (but no change in rideability), then light went off, got rid of the check engine by restarting the bike.
Then rode it another 30 minutes at least with no problems, and just as I was 1/4 mile from home it started stuttering and hesitating as if it's running out of gas and lost significant power, check engine light started flashing. I got home to fine 4 codes:

0 520205 (Fuel Correction) FMI 15 (System too Rich 2 (Rear) (Post)
1 520333 (O2 Sensor (Pre) (Bank 2) FMI 2 (Signal Fault)
2 65590 (unidentified Cylinder misfire) FMI 7
3 65592 (I think Rear Cylinder misfire) FMI 7

Seems issue with rear cylinder (whether spark plug, or cables...etc).
Anyway, seems I'm gonna have to call the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks Dieselgman for the suggestions.

On a different note, I forgot how much more sluggish the bike is and how much the engine is "clackier" with the stock Indian Stage 2 Flash compared to the FM tune.

I made this post before seeing the last 2 posts. Thank you for the suggestions. Yes I think it maybe spark plug related.

Has anyone noticed whether bikes with PVCX (running richer than the very lean stock and stage 1 and 2) have higher incidence of O2 sensors going bad? Maybe that should be a separate post to see how many had O2 sensor replaced, and how many of those have PVCX or other fuel processor.

The stock tune actually is pretty rich in many areas, sometimes too rich. The dynojet and FM tunes are actually leaner at lower power settings and richer closer to wide open throttle. But no the tunes are not going to kill O2 sensors. Mostly likely India used a bad batch of them.

With the PVCX, FM's, DJ's, and mine run at 14.7:1 from idle through cruise, just like the factory calibrations. You will find that open-loop conditions run leaner then factory calibrations. The problem with the factory is timing and not accurate VE table, so they tend to run real rich in open-loop as well as hunt more in closed-loop.

I realize this is an older thread, but in the last month, I've thrown the 65590 code twice. This code has also been thrown in the past. Anybody else have this issue and what have you done to resolve it?

Thank you.

Thanks: As you may remember, the tune is one of your own. It has served me well and I am extremely appreciative of your generosity. This has been the only weird thing going on. That, and I seem to have lost about 4-5 mpg on my fuel milage. I'll send it to you tomorrow.

I thought so, but hard to keep up with everyone. There is a setting in one of the tables I need to make sure is revised on your tune to avoid the misfire code at startup. I will look at the Target AFR with regards to the MPG as well.

Nice, thanks for the post I’m having the same prob; code 65590/7 saves me a lot of trouble shooting.went down on one cylinder came back.dropped out at lights shut bike down restarted came back, got home now it sits until I can get at it.
