Challenger Tuning

Which is a better tuning for the challenger? Mail- in ecm to rvs or Lloyd’s or dyno tuning?

I first did a Dynojet mail in. The tune was........ok. After a few thousand miles, it was a bit "off" as far as steady idle, throttle roll-on, occasional decal pop. Dynojet offered to refresh my DJ tune, but I would have to send the ECM back to them, and they would have charged me $200. I tinkered with just using the newer Indian tune, but spent the $$ on a Lloyds tune, since there is an RTC near me. Initial flash caused a few detonation issues, but I brought it back and they reflashed it, and all is well, now.

Some have said that the new Indian tune is the shizzle.....I don't know anything about it, other than what I've read here.

Plenty of opinions on each out there, so do your research.

I would also consider (as did I) the convenience of if there is a place to tune it nearby.
Don't do it. When that engine blows on that expensive challenger you're gonna be pissed. Don't go blaming "Indians shitty tune" for aftermarket destruction... lots of bikes with that Lloydz tunes blowing heads.
Just curious….do you speak from personal experience, or just what you’ve read either here, or elsewhere?

Lloyd’s is approved by Polaris so if engine blows it’s covered. Indian is a RTC for lloyds Tuning.

Lloyd Greer and Tim Sutherland have explained this on social media - Lloydz tune (or anyone else’s for that matter) is not approved by IM.

Indian absolutely is not a RTC for Lloyds. Individual dealerships have RTC agreements with them but have zero to do with Indian.

It violates federal law to alter the ECU tuning period. So, the Indian dealerships that offer this service are in violation of this law. Even Lloyd Greer has said his tune is for off road and racing only and not for street use to try not to gain interest from Mr EPA.

Polaris in no way can condone this or be they will be fined and sanctioned by the EPA.

So if you get a tune at Lloyds tune at a dealership that supports the RTC program. And something happens to the engine, your SOL. The dealership may go to bat for you. But once they see that files have been rewritten on the ECU as (they will want a diagnostic copy,) you’re hosed. Seriously doubt the dealership will pay for the warranty work when Polaris will not.

This is not a knock on Lloyds tune even though some say it knocks...........o_O

But the reality is just because an Indian dealership is offering this service to you, does not mean its covered by warranty. And Lloyds has already told people this.

Where can I read the information on heads being blown? I'm still doing my research on all these tunes.

Nobody posts information about it, every single guy it's happened to has ended up selling their bike, and just not mentioning it. Most owners are not on these forums, it's a small number of us. It's a lot of money to repair. Nobody looking at these tunes wants to believe there can be negative consequences to them, wanna believe they're magic or something. So...
Just curious….do speak from personal experience, or just what you’ve read either here, or elsewhere?
Does personally knowing 3 guys it's happened to count as personal experience, or do you need it to happen to my bike as well? Cause it won't, cause I'm not stupid enough to get it tuned by them... I warned them.
You've made your point.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tuned bikes are best bikes.

Also there are more cases of tuned bikes still being covered under warranty than not.

Go talk to your local dealer techs. Trust them more than forum folks. Stock tuned bikes are also having head problems. So it’s not the tune lol

Paratrooper, If my Challenger blew up because of a tune, I would be relentless posting stuff and I do not believe I am in the minority here. We appreciate the warnings but I think without your three friends getting on here, we aren’t buying in yet. Just sayin….

I do see that you state you are an Indian tech. That being said, it should be easy to get these three guys to chime in on the forums. They should be so friggin pissed and happy to do so.

Here are the facts about the supposed engine issues with the tune. Mad Monkey and Ryan from Lloyds got into a pissing match on Facebook, and this is what Ryan said.

Ryan said 4 bikes with Lloyd's tune had head gaskets go out. But that was 4 out of 100 bikes that had this issue, the other 96 bikes were bone stock with the factory tune. He said that Indian had a QC issue installing the head gaskets and unfortunately Lloyds got lumped into this as their issue. But in fact, it was an Indian issue. (Big shock right :D, that Indian had QC issues)

Bottom line thousands of bikes have been tuned by Lloyds and no complaints or issues. Yes, they did have some tunes with knocking issues, but they fixed those. Do a search and look at all the issues people have had with PV3 tunes, that had to be adjusted.

Yep. It was an issue with the heads. That’s why they re designed them for the 21 or 22 models I can’t remember.

Also most of the bikes with head issues. Stock and tuned were 2020 models

Nothing to do with the tune.

Speaking of tunes. Take this with a grain of salt.

But a Challenger owner on one of the fakebook groups said that Lloydz is currently in EPA testing with their tunes, meaning they will be offering an EPA compliant tune in the future. This makes sense as they don't want to be shut down like all the other tunes have been.
IMO the tuning business is on its way out. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it completely gone, except for EPA compliant tunes, within the next five years (or less).

I have posted similar comments on other threads. There were many products and more available for the diesel market with the disclaimer of "For off road purposes only". Then the EPA started going after tuners and such and almost over night all that disappeared! It is only A matter of time. Lloyd is no dummy, same as Gail Banks, if you are looking into the future and staying in business making EPA friendly tunes be the only way. Only problem is the newer tunes will not do as much and will end up costing more. We are in the glory days my friends but the light at the end of the tunnel and approaching fast! Dean
