Why did you own a bike you hated?
I do think the newer harleys are heavy, like Indian. And that concerns me. I do think the newer harleys are more cramped in legs than old. But I also like changes in the bags and trunks that came about in 2014

I like both brands. It is not divorce but a threesome for me
LMFAO! Thats rich, coming from the guy who has spent over 100 posts bitching about his Pursuit he bitched about BEFORE he bought it.....then bought it anyway and bitched about it for another 200+ posts.

When do you think I bought it? Only thing I complained about before I bought is I could not find any at the dealers. I didn't know about the rest until I bought it.

And as I said, I am enjoying it and if it is trouble free, I will probably buy another. Just not anti harley like some here. Also not afraid to point out things I don't like. You don't have to like every song on an album by your favorite band, If you look around, most of what I say is expressed by others at times too.

Had to pay it off. Didn’t want to keep trading and end up with negative equity on a bike. Once I got the title it was good riddance to that thing.

I am just not that way. I would have put some miles on it. Selling newish bikes you take a big hit. I can't imagine hating a bike so bad you could enjoy riding it for awhile.

There are things I really don't like about this bike. But I still enjoy riding it and bikes in general.

Paying it off really didn't save you any money it just gave you the title. either way you lost what ever value your were going to lose. If the bike dropped 10k, and you paid it off, you still lost 10k.

I put 10K miles on it. I don’t like adding negative equity to a loan. You do you tho.

You bet! Sadly in this part of the country not at all easy. I really need to rent something for a day, and that's not possible within reach for a HD, and I cannot find any Indian for rent. As in none. I'd happily write the check. I am cleared for a two hour stint on a new Harley either today or tomorrow (Time hassles on my end), but getting to spend any time on the Indian has so far been impossible.

Background: I sold my FJR1300 because arthritis in the knee's means I can't ride in a rider triangle for more than an hour. I'm also pretty comfortable for that hour. I'm hoping a pure touring bike with the feet forward (allow me to call that the "Harley" style) takes enough pressure off the knee to make it work. All of which means I need to spend something like 1 1/2 hours on a bike to know. sigh.. getting old sucks.

Plan:
At this moment I'm hoping the Harley test goes well and I can make an assumption using base ride comfort and ergo's via a short ride on a challenger. That I can accomplish at an Indian dealer.

To HD or Not To HD:

Not me. I'm just learning to not type "Hardley", so I've insulted a few along the way. However, riding is riding, and if this is the only style I can still ride on, well, then HD or similar it is. Besides, I'm still keeping my Vmax so I'll still have my power fix whenever needed. Moving past that, it feels like an Indian Challenger is a shorter mental bridge for a sport/power cruiser guy to take than an HD, hence my preference.

Style? As it happens I'm pretty OK with HD and Indian in the touring role. They look good and aren't pretending to be something they aren't. Cool. I have a tiny issue with straight pipe/megaphone bikers that think their "fill in the blank" is bad fast and cool when it's all noise and image. No ride quality, no performance, etc.. Hopefully I never accept that shite, but never say never.

O man love those FJR ! I'm 5'9" 175 . and Challenger gives me lots room to move around. It was no surprise they then made Pursuit as these things are good for touring .My problem space and more money., their would be more bikes in my garage! Maybe someone on FB or here close could let you ride their Challenger?

@dafish Get your knees chopped and swapped and get any bike you wish. I did! Best thing I ever did! (y) It’s an inevitability they’ll probably get done at some point.

you already put negative equity on it the day you drove it off the lot. It went from being worth 30k to 20k. What day you pay the loan off doesn't matter. Might as well ride it and get some use out of it. Plus as you ride it unless yuou had a awful loan you will be paying it off, and be closer to the selling price,

But for the answer to you question. No think you bought the wrong bike. Should have bought something with a trunk for storage and so you can have a happy woman on the back

I put a king tour pack on it. Yes I understand the concept of immediate depreciation when buying new. Im just not one to add anymore to that by including a previous remaining loan balance in financing a new bike. I lived with what I believe was a poor decision to buy it in the first place. Paid it off and it’s gone now. Which was a good decision.

Traded in my ‘21 Challenger Dark Horse with added tour pack, Advanced audio, close outs, 54k miles. For a ‘25 112 Pursuit Dark Horse, Advanced Audio back in April.
12,200 miles on the Pursuit now and like the Challenger an absolute joy to ride. Yeah the RC was a little quirky occasionally on the Challenger but they’re so comfortable, so much fun to ride, dependable I overlooked any RC issues. Haven’t had a bobble on the Pursuit

Have you looked up Eagle Rider? They rent bikes and the last time I looked, they had Indians. I don’t remember where I was going and couldn’t take my bike, but it was on the list. Wasn’t cheap, but may give you an option.

Do you know or are you aware about Indian Demo Days! Indian dealerships (supported by the manufacture) will have a demo day (actually its on average a two day event or longer). You could sign up for one and schedule a day or two if you act quickly and basically select the model or models of choice to test ride if available. Some IM Dealerships have loners bikes for Indian owners when an owners bike may be in for short term services or repairs that you might be able to ride as well, if you tell the sales people your interested in possibly buying an Indain motorcycle and want to test ride one they have.

I'll be honest, it's been a while (more... than a year) since I've been in an IM Dealership. I do almost all of my own maintenance, modifications and repairs when neccessary. Other than going to one of the IM dealerships for a recall notice, or who are an approved Lloyds tuning center when I make performance changes, I haven't had the need for a dealership since I purchased my 2020 Challenger in late 2019. That should tell you a lease something about the overall dependability of the bike.
I did not know about demo days! Mind you my closest dealer is over an hour away..

Welcome From Levittown Pa. I'm 6'2 and after changing to the Folsom Prison bars, I'm really comfortable. I was thinking of a new seat, but after break-in the premium model seat is great.
Good luck with your decision.

I just looked at Eagle Rider and the still have Indian rentals, in the Northeast, Hawaii, Nevada and looks like Australia. Probably doesn’t help you though.

Definitely no longer in Nevada. They returned their fleet probably 3-4 years ago. Whatever the politics may be, Indian could benefit from being engaged in the rental market.

Ok. It said Stateline, so I’m assuming near Tahoe. I didn’t look closely at the map.

Yeah likely Stateline Tahoe, even then its probably only a Scout. Las Vegas used to for a while, some sort of disagreement between Indian and EagleRider ended that.
